Thought people would find this really interesting. Although I have dove Lake Mead quite a bit I have never dove on this wreck. For a long time even though it was well known in the diving community the location was kept a tight secret. And the depth also limited dives on the wreck. I have been down to 140 feet in the lake several times, but this wreck was sitting deeper than that, and diving deeper presents more risk such as nitrogen narcosis and the risk of getting the bends. Pretty cool to at least see it on video even though it would be super exciting to dive the actual wreck some day.

I get my Lake Mead & Lake Powell confused
Never been to either particularly
Altho I did drive on the Hoover dam back in the day going to Vegas
Is it true that they made diversion road to bypass Hoover dam because of threats after 9-11?
Or was it some other reason?

Or was it some other reason? Yes, they did create a bypass after 9-11. You can still drive to and across the dam, but large trucks have to use the bypass. In a way it is much easier anyway as you can cross the bridge spanning the canyon rather than slowly winding down the narrow roads to the dam.
Pissed me off though when they built the bypass though as they closed off the trail to the Goldstrike Hot Springs for several years during the construction. When they opened it back up I went down there and they deliberately dumped a bunch of rock in to the main pool filing it up with rock. None of the nearby pools had any rock in it, and there was no rock on the other side of the pool wall, which is why I know it was deliberate. Before this the water went up just past my chin at the wall and there was one spot that went over my head. I am 6' 2". When I went back down the pool did not even reach my kneecaps.
You can see the bypass bridge in this photo:

What is interesting is the bodies popping up Yes, a second one was just found yesterday. No foul play expected in this one though like the first one, which was shot in the head, put in a barrel and dumped they believe in the late 70s or early 80s.
They are now offering a $5,000 reward for divers finding other bodies in the lake. There are a lot of them down there. Some drownings where the body was never recovered. There is a scarab boat that flipped and sank at the mouth of the canyon, which is the deepest part of the lake. A grandfather and grandson went down in that wreck. There was a $50,000 reward for recovery of the wreck, but at that depth it would cost more than the reward to recover. And no telling how many mob hits were dumped out there.
A second barrel was found near the first one, but the second barrel was empty. Possible that if there was a body in there that the gases blew off the lid and the body came out of the barrel.

Have not explored much of Arizona. Mainly Burro Creek and Kingman areas. Never been to the Superior area. I mainly focus on Nevada, and sometimes like to go down to Southern California. So many areas though are being taken over making them off limits. Even many areas in Northern Nevada including Wonderstone Mountain and a good portion of Dead Camel Mountain was supposed to have been taken over by the military already, but that got delayed a couple of years. And California did another land grab adding an additional 22,000 acres to the Mojave National Preserve, which was really done to block mining from what I can see. The preserve encompassed every old mine out there and even took some claimed mines.

Anyway it was a cool mountain I saw onmy rocking cruise through Nevada on 95 that reminded me of CamelBack mountain in Phoenix except much huger
had to take a picture
I really liked Nevada Just saw it from the road mostly Butte the banding & coloring in those mountains
Altho Nevada is a bare bare land I know why the indigenous & early explorer called it that
If you have any business to do Not a bush or rock high enough to afford any privacy
everyone one for miles knew your business bare buute, indeed
I told the chamber of Commence lady that story in Tonopah. She completely understood ha She was really a gneiss host!
If you check their guest list you see mohs signature !

If you check their guest list you see mohs signature ! the Copper triangle in Az is pretty darn cool I certainly didn’t explore enough,,,, Dead Camel is a great collecting location with the wide variety. Just have to be careful as part of the mountain is under claim, and some of the locals up there do not like people coming up there. Even though they cannot legally block access to public lands they sure try. They illegally blocked the main road to the mountain, and last time our club went up that way they were stopped by a man with a gun. He had out of state plates and was sitting there with his wife and dog in a car. He claimed he owned that land and told them they could not pass without paying him $200 a piece. He kept tapping his gun in his holster as an implied threat, while his wife went around recording license plate numbers. That was illegal on so many levels, but they turned around. They were going to report him to the authorities. I went back up 2 months later and did not run in to anyone, but the main road was still illegally blocked so I had to find a bypass to reach the mountain. Pretty soon it will not matter as the military was supposed to take over a bunch of land up there including Wonderstone Mountain, a good portion of Dead Camel and Earthquake Fault. The plan to take over all these lands was supposed to have already happened a year ago or so, but got temporarily postponed. So, I am going to try to get in at least one more trip before the land becomes off limits due to military takeover.

If you get to Southern Nevada check out the Goodsprings District. Super interesting geology out there with lots of layered mountains like this tilted way up or even completely on their sides.
