If the slab/slabs will fit i your barrels, you can tumble them. Slabs + well padded with smalls should give you some decent results. I believe a couple members on here tumble slabs.

Been told the green slab may be green malakite. If there's a chance you can post a picture of that one wet, it might be easier to identify. Now that you say Malachite, there does appear to be an "orb" structure in the lower left portion of that slab... ETA - I forgot to mention congrats...there's some nice looking slabs in there! And by the way, I slabbed up a bunch of Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian and I've got those running in the vibe right now. You probably have more experience tumbling than I do! LOL - If you get a chance, look up some of henryrocks (his username might be hankrocks) threads as I believe he tumbled slabs frequently.

The person that gifted me the slabs confirmed the green is malakite. He said if I work it it has to be under water? He said it has asbestos in it!?!?!?!?!?!?

Malachite is toxic if you breathe in the dust; but for tumbling, risk is very low. Just don't drink your tumbler water I would probably get it polished on a flat lap and display it, but that's me.

MelI dont have one 😕 The man that gifted it to me said that it has or is asbestos. Drink Tumbler water? 🤔 Doesn't everyone? Guess I'll switch to coffee to tumble with then it will be safe right? 🙃

There's been a lot of discussion in the past about working material such as Malachite. It's my understanding since you're tumbling it, you aren't creating any rock dust...so nothing to really worry about... "What kind of grit you using?" "Who me? Oh...I use Folgers!" LOL

It is toxic when you cut it because of the large amount of copper in it. Breathing in copper dust is not good for your lungs. That's why it's cut with a lot of water and wearing a mask. If you were to tumble the slab, it wouldn't be something to be concerned with.

Couldn't find any readings that theybwere the same so I smiled and said thank you. Could there be copper inclusions in malachite? There are a couple places in it that you can see metalic bits. He also said this had been used as Egyptian money.🤔

I don't recall ever seeing metallic bits in it, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Admittedly, I haven't cut a lot of it.

Didn't register as gold color on my monitor. Looked more like some light colored clay or mud to me. If it is indeed gold colored, it could be gold or some type of pyrite.
