I would like to cut shapes from Petoskey Stone slabs. I have heard of ring saws being used for this. Any recommendations? Hoping to buy a used one. What is the difference between a Diamond band saw and a ring saw? I currently own a Rock Rascal trim saw and am also on the hunt for a 10 inch saw. I also own a CabKing which I love. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A band saw has a flexible blade that larger rollers turn. A ring saw has a rigid ring shaped blade that gets turned. The bandsaw blade will stand up to more deflection. Ring saw blades are fairly easy to break. I have a Gryphon ring saw that we use for stained glass work. I always feel like I have to be very gentle when I use it and that's for cutting thin glass. I've never really had experience with a diamond bandsaw. Only wood cutting models.

Someone posted on here a while ago about using a fairly cheap Craftsman bandsaw outfitted with a diamond blade and water. You might want to do a search for that and check it out.
