Finally finished a pendant from my spring time leaf.
Now I can wear it :-)
Thanks for looking,
Patty

I like it!! Love the cut out on the back. I really like doing "turtle" settings. Fun. Is that silver?
Good way to finish that beautiful cab.

Of course the shinier, the harder to photograph.
I never thought of it as called a "turtle" setting.
I like that & you're right- a back plate with 4 feet , make it a turtle.

Patty, that was SO smart to do the cuts in the back of that setting! When looking "through" the piece, it'll look like veins in the leaf. Genius!!

And indeed when you hold it up to the sunlight you can see the shadows of the veins.
Of course, I also polished the back of the stone , which helps with that kind of thing.

I try to tell my wife I'm kinda smart about some things and not just a pretty face! LOL Of course...then there's the way I look...and the dumb things I do - neither of which really support my claim! LOL Another smart move to polish the back on that one.

Another smart move to polish the back on that one. After I spent all the extra money equipping my left hand flat lap on the cabber with flat discs - I better have a reason to use it !

If you look in the metalsmithing tute section, I moved an old thread by Drummond Island Rocks who made a good tute for these tab/turtle settings. There are some more examples in the archives.
I have lots of copper to play with. If I can remember where I put my smithing tools, I'll try to make a couple. I forgot how fun they were.

Beautiful pendant, Patty! As the others have already said, the back is perfect for the pendant.

liveoak - here are a few I did. Just sharing.
If you look in the metalsmithing tute section,
Thanks Tela,
I like your examples - the bail turned to the front that both you & Drummond Island Rocks did is an interesting variation.
That Jasper of yours makes me think of a turtle shell , & heck his is actually turtle shaped to start out with.
Good creativity there, I like your cut outs & off set stones, looks nice.
I went for so long striving to learn to copper solder, as I like to work in copper .
So tab settings seemed like a cheat to me, but I've come back around & like the variety they can offer to different shaped stones, that can be hard to set otherwise.

The back piercing was a good way to add interest to an otherwise plain stone.
Thanks for looking :-)

Thank you!
I wish I had taken pics of the backs. They were nicely done, too, but I don't know if those were pierced.
I did some smithing and will again when I can get back to it. I did some copper, too. I found some solder that was a pretty good match. For me, copper is trickier than silver.

Boy are you right Tela, rockjunquieCopper is harder to solder then silver. I've cursed myself over the years for being stubborn and sticking with it.
Rio sells a solder that somewhat matches.
I've learned to solder so you draw the excess away from the outside.
Maybe we're inspiring you to get at it again

As everyone else has said, great idea doing the veins on the back. It's just the perfect setting for that cab!

Thanks Diane drocknut . I realized I don't have any earrings to go with it,
so working on some more delicate copper leafs to match.

Finally got my earrings together & photoed.
They are very light & thin, started with 24 gauge & after sanding & polishing , I can't even feel them on my ears
I'm happy. Thanks for looking ,
Patty
