@msali parfiveTommyI deleted my Jeepite entry when I realized it didn't meet the entry requirements for the July contest. It can hardly considered a rock cabochon! My bad The rock requirement for August seems to have been dropped so maybe I will try again😁 Thanks brotherbill, that's what I was afraid had happened but I understand and appreciate that you were respecting the stated rule. In my opinion it was gorgeous work by a talented lapidary artist and deserving of a spot in the contest. As a general rule I try to not micro-manage the contest and let the voting members make those kinds of decisions. Over the years we have had other non-rock materials entered and allowed to participate in the vote and it's been in the back of my mind for while now that I need to make a bit of a change with the wording.

There have been fordite and bowlerite entries in the past. I liked the jeepite. ... and glass. I don't mind including alternative materials as long as it fits the theme (ie: an "agate" theme needs to be agate material) and it requires the skills of a lapidary artist to turn it into a cabochon. I will probably tweak that rule again so that it reads like this that I just wrote ^^

It’s funny, Bill, because when you first posted the pair I couldn’t for the life o’ me remember the common name for that stuff, and then, when I saw the voting pics last night . . . Hey, where’s the Fordite? : )

brotherbill it looks like you had more of the material. A nice inside curve carved into that Jeepite would look great for August.

I'm hoping it does get changed to any material. I know there have been plenty of others in the past that have done entries of non rock material and I'm also aware we have a few "purist" in the group who may not like it, but they are the minority.

Im one of those dirtbag purists 😂 but to be honest, I don’t really care what people use. Slag, dried paint, peanut butter… as long as it fits the theme, that’s all that matters.

Peanut butter would be kind of plain. Maybe the stuff with the jelly swirled in.

I'm hoping it does get changed to any material. August is a skills challenge so I've already changed the wording of the contest as follows: Obviously if the theme is calling for a specific material like the majority of them do, then that's what the material needs to be.

I was pretty excited that I got two votes (and 1 of them wasn’t me)! #11 with that Rocky Butte Jasper got me, those looked so nice and clean.
All of them did, I would have voted for everybody if I could!

Congratulations agatewhisperer on a stunning earring pair creation in a crowded field of beautiful stones for such a specialized theme. Your eye-popping shapes and colors led the way from the beginning of the vote to the end with a landslide victory. Please remember to show us the finished creation

Congrats agatewhisperer on a well deserved win! You created a stunning matched pair of cabs with a sometimes cranky stone.
