You guys stay safe. You guys drive cars, bicycles farm and lawn equipment, climb at steep areas and up ladders. It didn't help that the brakes were not working well...keep your stuff maintained !
It doesn't take much of a mistake to put yourself in great jeopardy. I shouldn't be alive. Ribs hurt terribly but remembering the intense fear of the likely outcome may be more painful. The emotions were difficult to describe.
Thanks for the kind concerns. Sorry for the sobering images but they should increase accident awareness.

We all have our moments. You didn't answer about damage to tractor. Kind of looks like the steering wheel got broken when the weight of the tractor was on it. Good thing your were not pinned to the ground by it, also good that it happened right there by home! Hurry up and mend, James.

In situations like this when yah aughtta be a goner there's just one thing I say, Thank You Jesus. Man that's incredible the 35 years never a blunder is impressive. As for the brakes needing maintenance, I've got a daily driver VW bug that I put ~60miles a day on and the front end ball joints are shot. Been creeping up in the back my mind I need to fix them sooner than it tells me it's been to late and I too have a story I wish I didn't have to tell if I live to tell it. Glad your alive.

If it damaged the steering system it will be a parts tractor. It was in need of a rebuild too; the parts aren't so costly but the labor is costly. when I get mobile I'll go look things over. My hips got deep bruises too so I'm not moving around to well. It took me 45 minutes to get out from under it. I actually had to break my ribs to get past the fender. It was a bad experience.

The best thing you can do for any body parts you injured, try to keep them immobilized. Don't go out and do ANY kind of work. Don't even go look at the tractor yet. It will be waiting for you when you are feeling better. For your ribs, if you feel a sneeze or a cough coming on - both of those are equally painful! - hold a pillow firmly against your chest, or trap a pillow with your chest up against the wall for support. Keeping those ribs immobilized will go a long way toward keeping down your pain level. If you don't start feeling at least a little better in a day or two, consider going to the doctor and getting it checked out. Trauma to ribs can injure your lungs, and other organs. Best to stay on top of it Hoping you recover and feel better soon, James!

Sorry you have to go through this. I hope you heal quickly and completely. Hard to look at it this way, but I think you actually had a very good day yesterday.

Ouch Get well soon jamespThat's a harsh lesson in Mobile Equipment Safety and the Center of Gravity As the tractor rolled I figured I had about a 10% chance of surviving with my life or without severe paralysis dule. Thanks for your concerns. I could use some humbling .

There seems to be two that are clicking along with sharp pain when I move. They say not to wrap your chest for fear of pushing the broken end into an organ. Clickers are breaks, cracked ones rarely click. They are on lower right and away from heart. If the pain doesn't back off I'll go get an x-ray to make sure there are no sharp points punching thru. Am breathing steam to loosen stuff in lungs for easier coughing removal. Thanks for the recommendations, you are always a Godsend to us RTH folks.

Boy jamesp you sure did it good ! I've read many stories of people losing in all in just such an accident.
Good thing for the bamboo, I bet a dirt hill would have told a different story.
Enjoy resting up.

Thanks Patty. It only hurts when a draft of air hits me. Talk about being restricted, no way to move without pain.

I was going to ignore RTH today so I could get some stuff done. A fat guy like me would not have made it! Even if it didn't kill me outright, I would have starved waiting for the rescue crew. How did you manage to end up on that sandy drainage area ? Perhaps you should forfeit all future matches with gravity? God makes sure we learn our lessons! Gravity is sneaky and QUICK! You would think you have time to jump off, but you'd be wrong. One winter I was watching a man working on a 10' scaffold. He had a fire barrel below him to keep warm. The board broke and in less than a second he had one leg in the barrel and one out. the burning wood saved an embarrassing injury.
