Come on over and we can sit in the rocking chairs(if we can even rock them)and discuss our ailments. Like grumpy old men are known to do. That's all Denise needs is another cantankerous old fart around to trade ache and pain stories!!!

jamesp I had an incident with a 67 Yamaha R1 that cracked several ribs and broke my nose. If it hadn't been raining I might have not made it, I wore a helmet strictly as raingear back then before Oregon had a helmet law. If you haven't I suggest you at least pee in a cup and let someone take a little blood to check your innards for organ damage, a good friend lost half his pancreas from rolling a Veedub as a young guy. I drive a vee dub every day 70 bug. Never have I thought it was a safe option but the thing just puts a smile to my face and a pitter and apatter in my chest. I love old vee dubs

Riding with him probably began my exploration of my own mortality.

She could stand the abuse. It might be you and I that get tired telling our war stories before she tired from them. Having a better day today. Thankful

If you mill over past near-death events during your lifetime an incredibly uneasy feeling can overwhelm you Lee. By chance you wore a helmet that day... Those that ride 2 wheelers often have more than one story to tell. You mention the Veedub accident, many a person has suffered terminal accidents with much less. Having a much better day today. Guessing the damage is limited to the ribs. A long wait at the medical establishment might trigger more anxieties and problems than staying home in a relaxed state. Might as well dodge the doc. Thanks, may have regrets later...

Great info Dave. Nothing safe about tractor operation. There's a long list of dangers. A fellow in this county ran over a softball with his bushmower. The ball was launched forward at some incredible speed and hit the back of the front tractor tire only to bounce off it and hit him in the forehead at what, 200mph ? He barely survived a serious brain swelling. There is quite a list of deaths and crippling injuries within a 10 mile radius of my home. My neighbor just south passed out and fell of his only to have the disc plow roll over him near cutting him in half. My neighbor just west had his son loading 1500 pound hay bales when the bale rolled down the lift and crushed him into the seat paralyzing him from the waist down. Two neighbors to the east was mowing the pond edge when the riding mower rolled and pushed him under water only to drown him. My bush mower snagged a guide wire on a 14,000 volt power pole and knocked a high voltage wire of it's insulator. I went to inspect and put my hand on the wet power pole and got shocked into unconsciousness for several hours. This list goes on and on. The number 2 killer in Georgia are caused by logging industry accidents. Maintaining and harvesting plants is just plain dangerous.

Seen that show before Randy. Those guys get to have too much fun but also flirt with too much danger. I sure hope you will have full recoveries and will get back to your routine. More and more of us older RTH members are facing rebuilds and medical issues. Such an 'incarceration' may be one of the most humbling experiences we can have. Especially for a fellow that has miles of rock treasures to hunt down. No big deal for the average couch potato, a near death sentence for lovers of activity. I was hoping to see some more field trip photos of the septic fields ! It's a good thing you stock piled so many specimens.

Glad to hear you’re OK jamesp. Something like that probably would have killed a lesser man. You’re pretty handy with metal. Could you fabricate a ROPS compartment for the tractor?

So glad you made it with only broken ribs, not that those are a walk in the park or anything! I hope you heal quickly as nd without too much frustration.

Glad you were quick witted enough to position yourself before being completely crushed. This could have ended so much worse. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

My first knitting project will be your straight jacket Jason. Once you put it on I hope to knit it to you just kidding . You make me laugh and it sure hurts lol. Ha, I can't even lift my right arm without moaning in pain. I bet your wife has to put up with more than she wants to.

Hope you're feeling somewhat better, Jim. I know it takes a good long while for ribs to knit. Still sending healing prayers up for you. Just remember to have that pillow handy and in place before you read any of Jason's posts!

Someone was looking out for me Brent. This is an old worn out heavy British tractor. At 6000 pounds it would have crushed any man. Being slender and limber was a Godsend. A big fellow would have not been so fortunate. Am looking forward to a newer one this time with power steering/brakes/clutch. And protective cage ! It is heartbreaking to lose ole David Brown. It was like a family member.

I don't think you're the only one thinking a straight jacket might be apropos attire for me! LOL I haven't had a broken/bruised rib in 30+ years...but I still remember the pain. I really do feel badly that you're having to endure it right now...but I'm equally as glad that you're still around. I don't know how many close calls I've had over the years where an "inch" one way or another made ALL the difference! Your case in point! As far as my wife...well...she's gotten the eye roll and the slow shaking of the head while looking at me in disbelief down pat! It doesn't stop me from saying some most of the things I do...I want to make sure she stays on top of those looks! LOL
