Well I don’t want to derail your thread
So I’ll post my story over here
I think it apopos
Its long one
so relax, grab a
comfortable rock
and sit spell
no problemohs… you say …heh
It was a Saturday
before Easter night
1972 in Phoenix
Rotload, Ross, Nhoj and Mohs
were in the Eternal Buttes Cemetery.
Mission?
To resurrect some old pals
Soon to join them- if luck wasn’t going to be on are side
As we were just basically drinking smoking joking
Somehow we ended up at warehouse building Ross worked at
in the in the industrial district
Not sure why?
Something about getting some boxes.
The building was a huge warehouse that stored empty cartons/boxes.
It was connected to a manufacturing plant that makes boxes.
So it all made perfect sense.
Ross had the keys to the loading dock door
He says something about needing some boxes
That are buried under some others.
Just down the aisle.
He’ll use the fork lift
Hop on he say & starts the tow motor
Rotload, Nhoj and mostly stand on the forks
To many of us to sit under the roll bar ha ha
Ross starts rolling down the darken warehouse aisle.
Slo &low at first.
Turning on headlights
Safety first!
Ross is driving pretty well.
He must of forgot about the boxes
cause its seem as though
we were taking a tour of the warehouse.
Then I noticed the speed was picking up
and the fork were elevating
The 3 of us were pretty high
The View up there was sort of exciting.
I don’t recall anyone saying:
STOP
Ahead was blind dead man curve
Ross was much to much on the clutch
Suddenly the tow motor was tilting &
the extended forks were pitching
We were going over Boys !
Bail Out!
was the popular cry
It was all in slomo.
I bailed off to column of boxes and landed fairly stable….mostly.
Nhoj also hit the top of some boxes .
Falling down smoothly to few other.
Rotload was the one that did the
slomo fall all the way to the floor.
Tall gangly kid. All limbs
He kept hitting the tops columns of descending cartons,
He tried to grab one and it just gave way
He took it all way down to the floor
Might of helped break his fall
I was perched high.
Wondering how to make
my way down, gingerly
Nhoj is fine and jumping down from his lower perch .
Ross is in good shape. He had roll cage.
Where RotLoad?!
Looking down I see him down on the floor
Hey Rot! you all right ?!!!
Rotload moves. Then he’s up like nothing happened
Damage? None!!!
The tow motor forks were fully extended, and laying at 66 degree angle; resting on top of the boxes.
Ross tries to retract the forks. Butte to no avail.
We’ll have to came back Easter morn,
and access a recovery situation
Which we did. About 7 that that morning
4 fairly bedraggled bodies
made are way back to the scene of the crime.
Yep the tow motor lay where we left it
Amazing!
we got the forks to retract and tow motor back up on all fours.
I think bringing the forks in help aright the body
Miraculous! Not sure how that happened?
And
There wasn’t that much damage surprisingly
A little rearranging of some boxes and the warehouse was like new.
Ross kept his job
Somehow it was overlooked
Sometimes I have dreams of being forked at work
