Here's a follow-up to questions about show setup and display examples. We just finished a four day (including setup day) grind at our club's show.
These shots show how we try to work in some diversity and visual interest in the displays at our show booth. Hope they help.

Very professional looking setup! Looks like you have a few bucks invested in lights.

Thanks, rockbrain . The six arm lamps are the least expensive style we could find - still ~$150 total. The little OttLite on the garnets is "borrowed" from my flat lap, and the two 24" goosenecks are normally on our Genies. We sure as heck aren't doing any cutting during this show... .
Yes, ashley , that is Mrs. Robin. Notice how she is actually working while I'm wandering around with a camera?
The layout for the first shows we did was mostly just cab and jewelry trays flat on the tables. With "improvised" lighting. Didn't work so well... .

You know Vince...the only pics you post from these shows are of Robin's backside! LOL
I hope you guys had a great show and that it was worth the grind! Those goose-neck-type lights are a really great idea!

jasoninsd - She doesn't like for me to include her in the photos for some reason. I don't have a lens long enough to shoot other angles safely.
I'm including a shot from 2015, when we got the corner space (center of the arena floor) that we're still in. The layout has changed a bit since then.
We invited a friend - seated in the background - who had never done a show before to share the space with us. He took the booth next to this one in 2016. Our stuff ends with the stand-up sign on the right of the Apache Tears we had out as a "draw" on the corner. We put vials of Anthill Garnets on that corner now. The 2016 show was also when we added slabs and got the matched arm lights to go around the booth.

Vince is correct. I don't like pictures of me being taken. I am not photogenic at all and this picture proves that without a doubt.

Between you and me, I'm the one more likely to break a camera...or scar the onlooker for life! LOL *I'm the same way...I really do hate having my picture taken...I usually look angry...which I'm far from it nowadays! LOL

The show was really good. We were surprised actually. We had 2,000 people come through on Friday and 2,200 on Saturday. Not sure what Sunday's attendance was, but not quite as high as those two days. I was hoarse by the end of Saturday from the amount of talking I did. Seemed that we never had more than a couple of minutes in between new folks coming up to the booth.

Those goose-neck-type lights are a really great idea! The goosenecks are on a c-clamp with a tube welded on it that a former club member made for us. We put the goosenecks in the tube with another plastic tube so they don't wiggle around. The first year we used them we didn't have the plastic tubes and they were pretty floppy. Vince came up with the plastic tube idea. He's really good at that kind of stuff and it works a treat!

Great looking setup, thanks for sharing! Hey, I used to have one of those mats in my entry way, until my GSD decided to customize it

Great looking setup, thanks for sharing! Hey, I used to have one of those mats in my entry way, until my GSD decided to customize it A couple of old throw rugs we brought with us this year to cushion our legs a little bit. The concrete floor wreaks havoc after 4 days of standing on it so we thought our old bones would benefit a bit from them. It did help, so I think next year I'm going to purchase some of those gel mats for us to use just for the show.

Thanks, rockjunquie . It's tough to get everything in without making the tables look like a flea market. Having slabs, loose stones, jewelry, and opal rough all in there in some "visually acceptable" way took some doing.
The Anthill Garnet display on the corner "catches" a lot of people from pretty far away. We had rectangular display bases with mirrors on all sides, so I stacked them and put a circle of vials on top with the Ott Light shining down in the center of the circle to backlight them. Then they see the signs that say "Arizona Anthill Garnets - Mined By Little Arizona Ants" on each side of the display. Lots of people are already chuckling when they walk up after seeing those signs.
I'm most proud of the display rack for the rough opal jars. It's made from a mesh silverware tray, a piece of a file hanger assembly for the back leg, and some pieces of hardware store chain and eye bolts. The first year we put opal rough jars out they were just sitting in rows on the table top and we didn't sell a single one.

Ant hill garnets are the best- I'm sure they did capture a lot of attention.
I always called your McGuyverisms "hippie ingenuity." In all honesty, that would be the fun part for me. I like jury rigging stuff and repurposing. Yours looks great AND it's functional... a 2fer.

Heh - then you'll like he gooseneck lamp bases. Sheet metal bookends with a piece of 16 gage sheet metal angle riveted on to stiffen them... .

I am not photogenic at all and this picture proves that without a doubt. Are any of us really? I can totally relate though and you will have noticed by now that I'm not rushing to do a "Faces of the Forum" calendar... Poor Eva has a dozen backside photos for every successful face she gets away with Now that I think about it, maybe we SHOULD do an RTH members calendar but with all of us with our backs to the camera haha Awesome show set up you guys! I miss the days when I could hit a different show somewhere in n.CA almost every weekend from March thru June. Now I just work. I'm feeling particularly sad about it because my favorite show in Roseville just went by this last weekend and I couldn't go.
