Someone was metal detecting at my place. Central WI. He found a few cool things and some rocks. Here is one of the rocks. It was found in 3 pieces, about 2' below the surface. Highly magnetic. Largest piece went up to a Rare Earth magnet 2” above it. I am guessing about a 7-7.5 hardness. A quartz point did not scratch it. The white lines are quartz like. Lots of sparkles on the broken surfaces. Very heavy for size. Any ideas on what it is? Thank you.

Possibly specularite with magnetite. The specularite (specular hematite) itself will not attract a magnet. It is often found with enough magnetite combined with it to create the magnetic attraction.
