Cool! I hope you like it. I use mine for cabs and it's great- not so great for jewelry. But, I don't mind, at all. This doesn't take up a lot of room. No need for a tripod. Plus, I'm gonna finally digitize a lot of old pictures.
The video is impressive- if you have an Apple product, which I don't.

I got one too. Here's the first result: a Hay Creek pink moss cab. I'm in love with the thing!

rockjunquie, Only problem I've run into so far is avoiding glare on the sides of high-dome cabs. I got the light set you bought as well but will have to do some experimenting to see if I can minimize or eliminate the problem. Works like a cat's behind on low-dome cabs.

I find that if I face the lights at each other over the cab and move them away from the cabs, that it cuts down on the glare. I don't mind a small amount of light on the sides, though, it shows the polish.

rockjunquie, I agree, but IMO this is too much. I'm playing with various methods to see if I can improve the situation.

The last group of cabs I posted had a high dome with a lot of glare. If I find a good way to reduce (other than going out on a cloudy day) the glare, I'll let you know and vica versa.

rockjunquie , I agree, but IMO this is too much. I'm playing with various methods to see if I can improve the situation. gemfeller I just digitized about 400 pictures using the same set up as for the cabs. Obviously, in copying pictures I didn't want a glare. I put the lights on the first setting and moved them back from the stand about 5 inches. The lights were low- lower than the camera and the lights faced each other straight on - over the picture. I didn't get any glare on the shiny pictures and reduced the glare on my high dome cab. See the following post....

rockjunquie, Thanks for the update. I've had the same idea but haven't tried it yet due to other projects. The result looks good. I've tried diffusing with Translum sheets but no cigar. I'm also thinking of another approach: situating a single light behind and above the cab, possibly with a diffusion sheet, to focus the reflection on a single small point near the top of the stone. Haven't tried it yet but it might reduce both glare and shadows. The problem is that no 2 cabs are alike in geometry and polish, so there doesn't seem to me there's a one-size-fits-all solution. But let's keep experimenting!

rockjunquie , Here are some test shots using the technique I described in my last post (excuse the dust, I didn't take time to carefully edit). Some tinkering will be needed to make it a little better, but as I suspected I'm now able to avoid major reflections and shadows. ETA: No diffusion used. Turquioise Indo Pear Montana Willow Creek

rockjunquie Yes just one light on a tripod similar to yours positioned on a stack of books about 3-4 inches high behind the copy stand. Actually it's a copy stand similar to yours that's set up for real cameras, not iPhone cameras. I've used it with my old Nikon for years but my new basement office doesn't have usable natural light like my old one did. I've been struggling to come up with a new lighting solution and now I think I'm on the right track. I used the Nikon for these images but results with an iPhone should be similar. One problem with the set-up is that there's less light at the bottom of the cab than the top. I'll experiment tomorrow with some aluminum foil reflectors to see if I can bet better light distribution. I really like the lights you posted because of their adjustable light levels. As I remember these shots were made at about a medium setting.
