Fossilized sponge or coral and volcanic have been suggested. It’s cool though. I cut it in half then soaked it in high strength vinegar, followed by CLR to clean all the ingrained calcite out. We find these on a regular basis here in south central Texas. Oh, we’re new here and this was my second attempt to post a pic. Not sure why it’s just a link when the other I posted came out as a picture. I’m a bit confused but that’s normal.

Looks like sponge to me, but I'm certainly no expert. Nice specimen!

Cool specimen! Here's your pic. I right clicked on the picture and copied the image address. Then I hit the "insert picture" button in the reply screen (buttons are right above the reply box). Then I pasted the image address into the pop-up...and wa-la!

Then I pasted the image address into the pop-up...and wa-la! Thanks! I will try that. I’ve been struggling trying to figure out how to properly attached pictures over the last few days. I am not a technically smart person. My wife is, but even she’s been having trouble. I see that someone suggested a sponge and someone else suggested coral. That’s along the lines of what we were thinking. Much appreciated everyone!
