HI THERE!!
One more thread.....and then I will try to leave you alone and get to work and then I can share all of my results with you all
I have a Dremel 400 XPR and a Flex Shaft - I LOVE IT!!!
I have been using Diamond Point bits to grind and shape some of my Ruby pieces.
I mentioned how I was smoothing all of the sides except one face and wanted to know if I tumbled them, would I lose that face - and found out that indeed I would.
So I am back to having to hand polish those smoothed faces. And I have the tools to do that - I just have no idea how
I have tried with one of the felt pads that came with my Dremel (I also bought an additional Accesory Kit, too) and bought some Turtle Wax Polishing Compound and have the Jeweler's Rouge that came with the Dremel, too.
However, when I tried to actually use the tool with the compound or rouge, it just seemed to be splashed everywhere and the felt pad just ground itself away - without much result - IF ANY!!!
SO, what am I doing wrong??
Again, is it just patience and I am needing to use more pads and accept the fact that whatever compound I am using will be splashed everywhere.
How does that rouge stuff actually work??
Does the felt pad need to be wet or dry?? Do I keep the rock as wet as possible while using the Dremel or use it dry??
As you can see - I have been playing around for quite some time before I found my way here I feel as now I have a forum to get all of the questions I have run into in the past few months answered.
And I just might be able to make something really beautiful out of these amazing rocks I have. They are already beautiful.....I am just imagining what the possibilities are if I can get this stuff right!!!
I have spent the money already on the things I need I think....now I just need to know how to use it the correct way ;D I have been stumbling along by myself for the past few months, finding little - if any - information on this stuff and coming up with the Dremel thing by walking the aisles of WalMart and trying to figure out what I could use to clean these rocks I had...LOL!! I had found the chemical ways (have yet to try to Oxalic Acid because it just seems too unsafe with my dogs around and into everything I do...and it is hard for me to keep something safe from them and have it still be something I can utilize with my disability).
But I think that with my Dremel and my tumbling, I am going to stay away from the chemicals anyway. It just seems so unnatural with the natural beauty of the rocks, somehow. After all, with the Dremel I am using Diamonds (a natural source) and with tumbling, I am using another form of rock and water, right??
Anyway, if anyone has these answers for me - I would be so appreciative!!! I can't wait to show you guys what I have accomplished with all of the knowledge you are all sharing with me ;D
