Thighgate plume. The lesser known cousins to wingate plume agate I divide material into two groups; those with a pattern like picture jasper and those with a repeating pattern like Leopardskin or peanut obsidian. I prefer to work with picture jaspers so I have more knowledge of them than all the plumes. I assume Wingate Pass is located in the Chickenshit Mountains.

But honestly, it has the look of some Canadian river plume I’ve seen (same color and similar pattern). Not saying that’s what it is, but might start you on the path to a locate. I’ve identified a lot of material that way by finding something similar.

That’s one thing that’s so hard about identifying some materials. There are locations with such a variance in the material in one locality. Then the grades of material is a whole other factor. I like to use eagle rock as a prime example of that. There are like 6 different variations of plume and their styles/grades in a 1/4 mile radius.

Graveyard Point, Regency Rose, Pink Lady and who knows what else. There's Dead Camel, Red Camel, Dead Ringer. Blue Dream, Mescalero and crossovers.

My first immediate thought was Wingate Pass Plume Agate...

After looking for it on ebay and Etsy, I found it is fairly rare and expensive. Looking at a lot of slabs, I would say I got lower grade material. It was free so I can't complain. What is missing from my slab is distinct plumes, more blobby. When I buy Stinking Water I look for clear agate and distinct plumes not blobby.

Congrats to realrockhound and catmandewe! It looks like they nailed the ID on this one as Canadian River Plume Agate! There's a couple dead-ringers if you look at Google images for Canadian River Plume Agate!

HP had a Canadian River Plume for sale tonight. I looked at it and other examples and what is missing from my slab is plumes. The one for sale had long plumes that look like feathers. My slab resembles Canadian river more than Wingate Pass. My uninformed vote is neither.
