Weather: Sunny blue sky with a few white clouds, 80°F
Destination: Achenkirch near Achensee, Stod-Wasserfall, Oberaubach. Way in, up and around.
Third time's the charm they say. Well... It's kinda true.
(Here's my first and second time exploring that region.)
It was an great trip... and I won't be going back there for a while now.
Why? I know the area quite well now and its not really great for rock-hounding.
Enjoy and have a wonderful day!

Destination: Achenkirch near Achensee, Stod-Wasserfall, Oberaubach. Way in, up and around.
Third time's the charm they say. Well... It's kinda true.
(Here's my first and second time exploring that region.)
This was the third and most extensive time - and also first time I went there alone.
I always wondered how far one might be able to follow that river into the mountains and what I might discover in that general area if I move further away from the stream itself.
I got all those questions answered. After taking the mandatory picture at Sylvensteinsee Damm, I drove to Achenkirch and parked my car at the usual spot,
enjoyed the beautiful view of the "Stod" waterfall for a few minutes and then made my way further down the trail, leading deeper into the valley at some distance to the stream.
After walking a few hundert meters I noticed - lets call it a "rock stream" to my right, leading up the mountain. You can take a wild guess what that meant.
Up I went and after a while I discovered water which made me even more determined to see where this would lead - and how far up I would be able to explore this.
When I heard the sounds of rushing water I pressed on and soon after was rewarded with an amazing view.
A litte waterfall to my left, a massive rock protrusion in the middle and another little waterfall to the right that was hidden further up so I could just hear it.
You guessed right, I went straight for some more climbing to discover the waterfall to the right. And I did that careful and with my eyes peeled to the rock formation to my right.
I've seen two stones up there become loose and hit the ground hard to shoot of further down and I'd like for them to NOT hit me. As I am sitting here, weeks later, comfortably writing about this it worked out fine.
I enjoyed the fresh, cold water, picked up a few stones and was just amazed by the view. A while later I made my way back down to pursue my original plan to make my way further into the valley.
As I felt the trail might lead me away too far from the stream I decided to do what I like most: Making the stream my trail.
And that went interesting as this became really impassable soon after. Luckily there was a litte trail leading up to the left of the stream, so I crossed and followed along for a while.
At some point the trail kinda just ended and not wanting to go back the same uneventful way I tried to somehow get back down to the stream, cross it and make my way back on the other side.
That became another little adventure of climbing and jumping as the way back down to the stream was quite steep and often wet and slippery.
Well worth it nonetheless - I discovered some beautiful spots that probably just a handful of people have ever seen.
After some way down the stream I climbed up the right side (now on the way back of-course my left ) of the mountain until I found the original trail to get back to my car.
It was an great trip... and I won't be going back there for a while now.
Why? I know the area quite well now and its not really great for rock-hounding.
It's beautiful and wild... but I've seen it now and there is SO MUCH MORE that I want to discover. That's why.
I want to discover the next valley, walk up the next mountain stream and see whats around the next river bend... can't help it.
Enjoy and have a wonderful day!
