I figured out how to post, been a minute...
A little back story, I went to the Crawford rock show in Nebraska earlier this year, which was fun. The only thing I bought for myself was a 12' x 18' old tarp that an older guy was selling, although my buddy dropped a hefty sum on a killer Fairburn that he added to his collection.
I did buy a friend a few arrowheads a rancher had collected from his ranch.
While I was up there, I visited a different friend and his wife at their ranch, and spent the night. We were chatting before bed and I started talking about all the things I've loved about rockhounding, and she asked if I'd be willing to come talk to a group of men who have dementia about rock hounding. I told her I hadn't really done much in a while and I didn't really know what to talk about but she just said they'd love to hear the things I was telling her, so I agreed.
Yesterday I went and spent an hour with them over my lunch break, and we had a great time. Some of them had brought rocks that they had picked up and wanted to know what they were. Most were granite in different shapes but one guy had a cool baculite, and another had some rock show rocks that included an ammonite and some sodalite.
I did a high level talk on igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, and we talked about what you could find around here. It was interesting because a lot of the guys (I think there were only 10-12 of us) were well educated and could recall things they knew, but had parts missing. It was good to talk with them and fill in some gaps, but I really enjoyed it and they all seemed really engaged.
I told them about rock hounding trips with my kids, including my most recent this summer with my daughter, before she moved away for a job in Madrid.
I don't know if I can share photos of the group, so here are a few of me when my daughter and I were out in Wyoming.

OK not sure what the forum does with that redirect but it seem to break it, here is another try:

Yeah so the redirect breaks the link from the forum side, if you just copy the link text you can paste it into a new tab address bar and it should work, bleh...
Hope everyone is well. As always, miss you all.
