This was in a bunch of rocks given to me by a guy in western Kansas. It was already cut in half. He gave me some others that were thundereggs, and the outside here kind of looks like that.
Anyway, I've got a new co-worker starting tomorrow, and used this mystery stone to make a desktop business-card holder as a welcome present. (Because what good is it to have a weird hobby if you can't creep people out with odd and unsolicited gifts?)
Anyway, the awkward moment will surely arise when someone asks me what it is, and I'm just not sure. It was definitely softer than agate, but not as soft as script stone, maybe sodalite-ish or a little harder? And the three bands on the front were slightly different hardnesses, so I had to work to not undercut. Any idea what I'm looking at here?
(And for funsies - when I cut the card-notch, it opened up a small crystal vug)
