Getting my first real tumble batch together by hardness and entirely not sure what this is. It does not get scratched with penny, steel nail, nor chrome vanadium. Tried scratching with quartz, jasper, moss agate, they all mark each other but no scratches. So it’s gotta be 7+ I used an identify app and calcite was first answer 😆. Def not calcite! It feels like fine sandpaper, some places smoother than others. Your 2¢ please?!

Calcite will react (fizz) when weak hydrochloric acid is applied. My thought is that you have a piece of rose quartz there. That would jive with hardness 7.

Thank you, that makes sense. Just different color and texture than I’m used to. I got it gem grubbing near Mammoth Cave, KY. Where I am from the rose quartz is glassy and smooth. It will tumble nicely with my batch ^_^

rockinronda - I'm excited for you on that first batch! It's already been answered...but I agree that definitely looks like the Rose Quartz from around here.
