Hello there!
I am a professional industry paleontologist/geoscientist living and working in the Rocky Mountain and Southwest regions of the United States. I've been bringing rocks home since I was a small child, though I really only started actively rockhounding 5 or 6 years ago during my undergrad. I worked in five states in 2023, and many rocks have come home with me. Some of which I find while I'm out working (I have a field based job), some from hikes and special rockhounding trips in evenings and on my days off.
I was recently gifted a vintage Lortone machine from the 1970's that belonged to my late maternal grandmother. Likely a QT-NR with two 6 lb barrels - plenty to get me going! I've got it cleaned up and working, ordered a bunch of supplies, and I am excited to start tumbling! Eventually my mother and I will clean up her other equipment and learn to cut cabs, but starting with the tumbler for now. I've been lurking on this forum for a while. It seems like there are a lot of knowledgable folks, here!

Welcome from Central California! You're in a good area to find plenty of rocks to feed that tumbler.
