Hello: Please help me with identifying rusty orange druzy crystals within the vesicles of chalcedony nodules (about golf ball sized nodules and larger) from Belton, TX. These nodules were found weathering out of the drainage wash between the Bell County Justice Center and the Southwest Pkwy in Belton (housing developments on either side of the wash). The crystals failed the fizz test with acid so that appears to rule out calcite and dolomite. The crystals appear to be various shaped rhomboids resembling tiny specks of aragonite or vanadinite and lie within the weathering vesicles of the nodules. Any information or good guesses that could guide my research into these crystals would be greatly appreciated.

Do you mean like this one (if your description fits the visual in my head)…I’ve found a lot of these around the San Antonio area. Usually they are very orange, so I soak them in 20% vinegar for a day, then soak in water with a bit of baking soda to kill the acid, then spray down with CLR and let it soak for a day or so. Lastly, a final rinse of water with a bit of baking soda.
