Hi everyone. The family and I are going down to the San Antonio zoo this weekend and we'd like to fit in some rock hounding and fossil hunting. I would love any advice on good locations. We are interested in everything, but I'd particularly like to find some SA pet wood if possible.
Thanks in advance! Dillon

Don't know if you meant yesterday and today...or in 6 days. Tagging HankRocks as he might have some advice...

This is just a friendly reminder for all. When you're discussing your hounding locations in the public forum, the average Joe doing a Google search might come across a post with specific location information. That might not be just one searcher, but thousands. If you're going to share a specific location and details of, say, how to get there, please try to keep it to PMs. That will help protect your special spots.
This is not intended to preclude sharing of information; it's just a reminder that many of our posts can be accessed with a simple internet search.

definitely don't go looking in any and every parking lot for zero-scaping stones. so, the zoo happens to be in Breckenridge park which is well designed for walking in and is rife with trails. there is a tributary of the river in the park but I don't know how accessible the waters edge is or if it has good rocks. if you are willing to range out a bit Castroville city park in Castroville has very accessible stretches of the Medina River. I would invite you to My picking spot but unfortunately it is my In-laws and the best picking on the 40 acres is in their front yard. It just occurred to me that you have probably left town at this juncture, but if you haven't I would be happy to bring you Pet wood> if you are here for the week I work in San Antonio and can bring you an overflowing coffee can of pet wood to pick through

Is there a reason this subforum is in the publicly viewable area? Yes. It encompasses different events/trips/etc. which would not be an issue if shared publicly, and this is the way things were set up...long before I got here. Folks are generally pretty good about keeping location details to PMs, but I'll tend to throw out a reminder every now and then since we always have an influx of new members. It's really not that big of a deal, but this was one of the caveats that a long time member once shared with me when I got here. I like passing that information along, as we're not operating in our own little bubble.

Yes, work and school started up today, so we headed home. Zoo was great. Next time we are down there I'll PM you if you don't mind? Didn't get any hounding in this go around - always next time!

That would be fine, I would love to meet up if it is feasible.
