Come join me and the Victor Valley Gem And Mineral Club for our 48th annual tailgate. I will be leading the field trip to the old Hillis Marble Quarry for tri-colored brecciated marble in green, black, white, and sometimes pink! This is a 4WD trip only so if you don’t have a 4WD the tailgate is also right below the Verde Antique marble quarry with marble and hematite on the list of collectibles. With free vendor spaces, free admission, free camping, and lots of fun for kids young and old! see ya there!

Do you happen to have any pictures of the tri colored marble you'll be collecting? I tried to Google it and only came up with pics of kitchen counter tops.

Thanks for posting, that's some pretty good looking stuff. There's a slight chance that I will go if all the stars are aligned for me. It's just short of 5 hours one way for me.

Ok. Meet up is always immediately east of the entrance to the tailgate parking area at 9am Saturday. There will be a big sign designating the area. There are also signs posted along the length of Stoddard Wells Road with approx mileages to the tailgate. It’s a long dusty ride to get there. You will pass 2 open areas where dirt bikers and quad riders are usually camped and lots of little jumps and paths criss crossing Stoddard Wells Road. As you crest a small rise at about 5-1/2 to 6 miles you should be able to see the Verde Antique Quarry atop a 1000 ft hill on the right of the road with a group of RV’s, etc in the valley west of it. Hope to see ya there!

Bump for the Tail Gate! Saw a lot of great slabs, including lots of Cady’s moss and other great stuff for cheap! Will try to remember to get some pics of the Tri Color location to post here. I know how ya’ll like pics!

I imagine you're already out so don't know if you'll see this until later. I shared this with my brother in the Los Angeles area and he's driving up with a neighbor. He'll be in a new kind of green Toyota Forerunner. He said he'd get some marble for me.

Wow rockbrain just saw this. It was a crazy turnout for the field trip. So many new faces and all I can’t remember if I met him or not. I will say that was a horrible road and it’s tough to get 6 or 7 vehicles in there and we had 22 on the trip. I will post a few pics…

quartzilla it looks like everyone had a great time! I know my brother Ron enjoyed it. He was the one that had his dog with him. I think he gave someone a ride back too. He got me some material so that's what's really important!

Ok good deal! It was a fun trip but that road sucks big time! Nobody got stuck or a flat so alls well that ends well, and it ended with everyone getting some of that marble! Make sure to put up a pic or two if you work any of it, I’d love to see what you do with it!

A couple surface finds from the trip! rockbrain a lot of this has larger patterns but there is stuff with smaller ones as you can see in the darker piece.
