Has anyone heard of anything for rockhunters to find in the areas South/West of Indianapolis? As far as I know, the area has limestone, shale, coal, gypsum. Maybe from Evansville to Vincennes or Bloomington to Corydon, including areas in between. I've heard geodes can be found, but not sure of legal areas to collect them. I was hoping for other rocks too. Maybe some jasper or chert, anything worth collecting or tumbling. Thanks!

Geodes are everywhere as you get closer to Bedford/Bloomington areas, especially if it has rained recently.
When I say everywhere I mean just that - alongside roads, my wife and I even found some in the grassy areas at a Meijer parking lot. They aren't hollow stunners or anything, but they're geodes. You'll see houses with wells made out of them, much like farmers would use field rocks to make fences.
There are also basic fossils in limestone road cuts near the Kentucky border.

I might have to make a trip to the Bedford/Bloomington area. I've seen a few geodes at people's homes but didn't know if they found them locally or not. In the mean time, I'll try some of the road cuts down by Corydon to see what I find. Thank you!
