Brainstorming something here...usually I'm off the mark anyhow.
Is there an epoxy or glue or sealant that would hold up to some abuse in the tumbler?
It wouldn't have to be more than a week or two at a time, something I could reapply as needed.
Trying to think of a way to keep botryoidals, quartz crystal faces, druzy pockets, that sort of thing.
Maybe something that would come off with heat or another chemical reaction?
I'm really fishing here lol

I have heard that applying a thick layer of hot glue to the surface will be enough to keep the surface intact. I haven't tried that myself yet.

People have used wax. I’d try the most epic of hard dop waxes.

In answer to the thread title: No... and yes.... there's no epoxy as hard as the type of rocks that would normally be tumbled. The hardest epoxies are around 88D - 90D Durometer, which is about the same as bone, which is about 4.5 - 5 on the Mohs scale. Also the ones that get that hard are "usually" more brittle than Silicon Carbide grit.
FROM CHEMTRONICS: BUT, just about everyone that makes epoxy will say the same thing.
NOW.... if you want to encapsulate a pocket or something to protect it but still show it off, you can use epoxy for that. There are some "crystal clear" epoxies that are very hard and as clear as acrylic, some even have UV stabilizers in them to help resist yellowing.
Otherwise, as parfive said "dop wax"

Hope you do some tests and report back. It would be cool to protect druzy areas in a tumble.
