How do you find patience, especially through the second phase? I love the first phase and watching some dramatic changes, but I find the second phase to be harder to sit through. I guess I need to join many of you and have so many tumblers going at once there is never a dull moment. Have a rockin' day.

Hi J9. Yep, patience doesn't come easy for me either. But after I rushed a few steps through before their time and got so so results, it helped to slow me down and wait. That is also why I like having both a rolling and vibratory tumblers. I can rough a batch in the roller while I fool with polishing a batch in the vibrating tumbler and keep the process going. Vibrating tumblers are great and fast for polishing (2-3 days each step, on average) but they aren't designed to do the shaping as well as a rolling tumbler. Well, at least that is my opinion. Not everyone will agree. As hard as it is to wait, it is worth it J9. The results will confirm that. Talk to you later, Don

I second that. Get another 2nd tumbler so you have a constant turnout rate of polished stone. This will keep you from getting too anxious. I also like to sit around and look at my unpolished rock and prepare for my next batch.

I want my patience and I want it now!!!! I hear you on peeking and wanting immediate results. I understand the let down when after three days it is cracked and it looks like crap. Just wait untill you have tumbled for five weeks and one step was rushed and rock crystal looks like beach glass. In all it is the journey that counts, when it finally comes out it is kinda a dissapointment. It looks great and I want more. I got quite used to the sound of a waterfall. Now silence, except for the sheetrockers from hell. The tumbling room today, no waterfalls, just air hammers, compressors, contractors with three word vocabularys. My wife said something with three syllables and one contractor threw his tools to the ground and exclaimed,"if you are going to insult me, I am done!". She had actually gave him a profound compliment from Shakespeare. You will probably find, the sound of the tumbler is serenity. Sometimes I just fill the bbls with dunnage just to hear the sound. It was one of those dunnage runs I found the ruby I faceted for my wife. One thing I learned, the hurrier I go, the behinder I gets. The journey is a joy.

I've found that there are three ways to soothe impatience while tumbling.
1) Buy another tumbler, or even just window shop for tumblers... ah, to own a forty pound capacity tumbler!
2) Buy or collect, or just window shop for more rough to tumble, then break and sort it... ah, tiger eye at $8 a pound...
3) Search the net for info on tumbling and decent tumbling books, staying clear of the countless gymnastics sites.
