I went with my father-in-law again to the Brazos River just outside of Houston, Tx. last Sun. We walked a stretch of exposed river bank for about a mile or or so with our five gallon buckets collecting as we went. I couldn't believe how much pet wood there was, we carried out just over 2 five gallon buckets of pet wood after 2 hours of collecting. What a treat! My father-in-law seems to be enjoying it too. Here's the pics Sorry for the fuzzy ones... This is Joe.... Hunting another fuzzy one but you get the idea of what the area looks like.... Ahhhhh....River The days' haul...lots of Pet Wood and some other things. Check out the Brazos Berries!!! Could this be Red Plume? I'll slab a few and post more pics... Thanks for looking!

Those look fantastic! I really like the red stuff and it looks like you got some awesome pieces of wood!! Good for you.
You did much better than I - I spent the weekend hunting in the local creek beds - they're FILLED with rocks and didn't find anything to tumble....but I think I might have found some neat rocks to keep as samples if I EVER figure out what they are!

Thanks everyone..we had a great time collecting, the weather was good and the pickin's were easy. I slabbed some of the red ones already, they look pretty sweet but no pictures yet. I spent the day today cutting free forms...haven't done that in a long time..felt good.
Most of the red ones are pretty small and like Randy said they're almost ready to go into 120/200 so they'll go into a tumbler along with the freeforms I cut today. I'll try to get some pictures of the berry slabs and the free forms up tomorrow evening.
Sorry you didn't have the same kind of luck Shelby.
Thanks ;D Dan

I'm starting a load of Berries in a 3# barrell this evening. I'll post some pics when they're complete. Hopefully it will turn out to be nice tumbling/cabbing material. If so, I'll collect more and offer it up on the board!

Great haul, Dan. Looks just like the stuff up at Lake Livingston, only a lot closer. Nice to know it's so close. Thanks for the pix.

Matt - I couldn't believe how much Pet Wood there is. You can't take 2 steps without bending over to pick up another chunk! The variety is incredible, lots of colors, I found a small bright red piece of pet wood that I thought was a berry until I looked closer...hope to find more of that! Oh yea...found a little bit of Pet Palm as well. It's a sweet spot!
My father in law is very protective of the 'secret' spot so it might be awhile before I can offer to take others to the spot but I'll break him down eventually...lol...
Thanks again....Dan
