1lb+ garnets added at the second (220) stage is the perfect fill.. No plastic pellets needed..The garnets polish well and make beautiful stones for gem trees or earings, etc.--At $4.50 a lb they are not that more expensive then plastic pellets..The biggest garnets I have found are at: stoneageindustries.com When adding garnets at the 2nd stage(220) be careful as garnets are heavier than plastic pellets and watch the load weight for your tumbler..

Seeing that you use garnets for fillers, makes sense, perhaps I ought to add some of the tiny rocks that I have that I want to polish instead of plastic pellets. I get alot of those tiny pellets when I get my sapphire rock from Montana. Tami

That is a trick I learned to do hard to polish stones. I dumped all the stones from one run into a collander. I picked out the stones I wanted to run in a finer batch and kept the smaller stones for dunnage for the next batch. It seems to work, and some of the smaller stones came out real well. It really helps with corundum.
