Bout a foot, appearently Well, it's done. I just set up shop at "Carols Hairstyles", owned by Cathy who just keep the name when she bought it from Carol 4 years ago. (Just think that's funny ;D) I feel like I've given my babies up for adoption It's going to be 15/85 commision (better than I thought). I has it's own nice jewlery case. She sold silver for a while and gave it up, so now she's going to pull out the silver necklaces she still has and sell them too. We'll both benefit. This is my framed little, I guess you'd call it a "mission statement" EarthTones by Nanette Each piece of this collection is as unique as nature. They all began their journey the same way, as rough rock pulled from the ground. The process of breaking, grinding, shaping and polishing the stones takes 1-2 months. Three pounds of rough stone will usually yield 5-10 individual pendants and earrings that are true gifts of the Earth. I do little pre-shaping and let the natural action of the stones and polishing media determine the final shape. When you wear EarthTones, you are truly wearing a piece of nature. Enjoy! Nanette Cookson Now I'll just wait for the money to roll in. Yeah, right cookie

Cookie, Very nicely written! Thrilled you took a chance and went ahead and did it.
15% commission isn't bad....I've paid around 20% before...and that was 10 years ago!
Many hugs and goodluck! Helen

Cookie, You did GREAT!!! Both with your description and with the percentage that you'll be paying. Around here, places that take items on consignment get 35%!

I'm still turning them out. Right now, I'm working on what my hubby calls the "Chattahooche River Collection". Chattahochee means "painted rocks" in Creek (indian). Remember the term "If the Lords willing and the Creek don't rise"? The Creek actually refers to an indian tribe, not a body of water. Anyway, some of the collection of quartz Helen and I recently aquired is grinding down better than I expected. No rutilated so far, but stunning just the same. Some smokey quartz that would knock your socks off ;D Thanks for your support, everyone. I have a good feeling about this. cookie

Emerald, backing up to our posts about craft shows, it sounds like a great idea to team up, actually, I hadn't thought about it but that's how I started up -- it was hard to spring for the entry fee single handedly with so little stuff and so much uncertainty. My only reservation about it is that there is so much jewelry out there already, I'm amazed at how many vendors there are, in our area, at least. I am really resisting the impulse to go in the jewelry direction myself because I don't think it would be easy unless you came up with something really unique. It could be that using the natural shapes of the stones as you do, cookie, will be the key unique thing. I look for rocks, of course, and I've noticed that's not something you see often. So, it might be great. People do buy, in spite of the competition -- I do!

I haven't been to shows in several years...at least retail craft shows, so I haven't any clue as to what people are doing, but that wouldn't discourage me and sometimes it's even better if I don't see the competition. (except for pricing maybe) I know this must sound silly to some of you, but I believe anything is possible, with a fresh approach, regardless of the competition. If you want it bad enough, the creativity needed to develop a unique product will be there. I did it once before with painting. I feel sure it can be done with the jewelry.

Let's hope so, Em. There are alot of "earthy" people in this area, so I was kinda gearing it toward them. It's the fact that each piece is completely one of a kind that I want to put across. You won't show up at a party and see your jewlery on anyone else. And hopefully, people will say "That's so unusual, whered you get that?"

There really isn't much out there that shows off naturally shaped polished beautiful stones. That sounds like your big draw. Music festivals, maybe? or could you get yourself into a museum gift shop?
