Ohh...according to Fed Ex...my saw should be here today!
*drools with antici........pation* (Wonder if anyone catches where that's from?)
You guys DO realize...once this baby is set up...I'm likely not going to be here for awhile....either that or I'll flood the forums with scads of "how do I" posts.
;D
Really am looking forward to getting this. Think I could just bust with the waiting. Literally have stone lined up that I'm going to cut. Cher & Cookie get first dibs!

Hope you enjoy your new saw, Emerald... it'll definately change the way you look at rocks...
And I have the sudden urge to find a black curly wig, leather corset and black stiletto heels... ::Grins::
Love me some Rocky Horror...
Again good sawing!

Too cool! Whatcha gonna cut first? (and not only did I catch that reference, I can practically recite the whole movie. I don't know if that's a good thing or just means that I'm a very sad creature )

I'd worry about the black curly wig, leather corset and stiletto heels with Malkavic *chuckles madly* Too funny!
Otherwise, I think that it just makes us a bit more special!
My very FIRST cut is going to be some mediocre Georgia Quartz. If that first cut goes well...then, in this order...
Minnesota Lake Superior agate (I have a WHOLE bunch in a pail that I'm not sure if that's what it is or not), Rutilated Quartz I got when I went hunting with Cookie AND....I have several pieces of Mexican Crazy Lace agate I'm dying to cut.
I also have about 30 lbs. of amethyst and quartz that needs to be cleaned up before I can either tumble, cab or sell.....told ya you guys may not see me for awhile!

I am [glow=green,2,300]GREEN[/glow] with envy but I'm very happy for you. I'm beginning to see one somewhere off in the future, just don't know how far off it is. [glow=red,2,300] ~ Cher ~[/glow] pages.prodigy.net/bestsmileys1/signs/RockOn.gif [/img]

Warren, Eeek! You mean that I can go through a diamond blade THAT fast? Now that's not good news!
I figured I cut over 400 porcelain stoneware tiles on a home-depot trim saw and made it using just one saw blade. I assumed I could do at least the equivalent with the smaller one. *hopes*
Oh...forgot to add that Fed Ex didn't show up today. *sighs* One more day!

::chuckles:: Hey, I'm young and adventurous.... and a bit on the crazy side, especially around Halloween... but that's a bit off-topic...
As far as the saw goes, you shouldn't have any problems... if the blade on the saw is a diamond rim blade, the harder the stone you cut, in theory, the better off you are, because it gives the blade a workout, thus slivering away the metal that holds the diamond onto the blade, exposing more diamond when the old wears thin... at least that's what I remember reading, somewhere on these boards... I want to say it was one of Doc's posts...
I've had a Barranca combo unit with a 6" trim saw, and have been cutting everything and anything I can get my hands on... jaspers, agates, geodes, malachite, larvakite, obsidian, and a few other things... I'd say roughly 300+ lbs of rocks so far since April, and I haven't had any problems yet with my blade... still cuts through the toughest things like butter... just remember to keep it oiled... there are a few different additives you can get to keep it nice and cool...
There are a few suggestions for oils on the boards... I've been using Tool Cool, and it's working fine... but I'll probably switch over to something else, when it runs out, just to save some money... just remember to keep it dry when not in use to keep it from rusting, and you should be ok... or WD40 it, and it'll also prevent that wonderful rust...
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it when it gets there... and don't forget the pictures of all the rocks you cut... we are always looking for new things to gawk at... ::Grins::

Malkavik, Alas, my wild days are "somewhat" over...but I do enjoy watching others make fools of themselves. *snickers evily*
Barranca combo unit with a 6" trim saw...nice! I saw the Barranca, but thought the Lortone combo unit with a 6" trim saw was more in my price range. Ordered it from Kingsley North and also ordered their brand of coolant. (Lubri-Kool) I hope that'll work ok for the saw unit. Good tip on using some WD to keep the wheel lubricated.
Do you use anything to clean the blade for maintenance? or nah? I thought I read somewhere that you might need to clean the blade with some type of tool every once in awhile.
If the dust isn't too bad, I'll probably keep the unit in my office where it's heated and well lit. (Computers and dust don't mix) If it starts getting messy, I'll have to move it to yet another heated area thats rather dark, dingy and has lots of spiders! *eeek*

Emerald,
I am trying to get caught up ... whew ... it's been tough!
If there is anything I can be of help with, when you get your saw, let me know and I'll see if there is anything I can do for you.
Take care,
John

I think that blade life will be determined by you, if you force the rock into the blade if you cut square and don't put side pressure on the blade. I think you will also find that agates are a LOT harder than tile. good luck and post some pictures
