Hi folks, I am tumbling the plates of Ocean Jasper that I have and it is going well..Im on the second phase (120-220 gr) and was curious about the consistancy of your water fill. I have found that if it has a milky or creamy consistance it does a better job for me that a thin one ! I just cracked open the Thumblers Model B after 3 days in the 220 stage and found that the water was not very gray and was very thin..I added some more grit and put it back in motion...this made me think about this question..what consistancy is the liquid in your tumbler ??
Thanks Dwight P

I agree with you Dwight, creamy seems to be the ticket. I think it clings to the rock allowing better contact rather than a thin slurry washing the grit off, but isn't too thick as to affect the action of tumbling. There seems to be a fine line between a creamy slurry and a goopy paste. Happy tumbling all, Don

I've read that efficient grinding does not begin until the slurry is at the correct consistency, which is thin pancake batter. Mmmmm...... pancakes.........arghhhhhh.

Yes I have herd that the thiker liquid dose a better job. I think it is becouse it dose not let the rocks hit together so hard when tubling.

I can never get mine to pancake consistancy, it is the color after a few days..but if I add more media it will collect at the bottom edge of the barrel. The consistancy of the liquid is still thin in my opinon.
I dunno
