I've heard mention of tumbling hematite, but wonder if it would be possible to tumble pyrite. They are both iron based minerals.
Has anyone tried it?

Pyrite tumbles, but, in my opinion it looks better when it is tumbled within the base stone, like quartz. It definately gets worn down.

Thanks for the link, Kim. I will definitly have to try it one day.
Doc, I'm not sure what you mean about tumbling the pyrite within its base material. Can you expand, please?

I have a piece of quartz laced with pyrite chunks. When it is tumbled, the edges of the pyrite is rounded and it kinda ends up looking like quartz laced with gold. It is kinda cool looking. I ended setting the chunk in a bracelet and it looked good. I do not know how it stood up however, the customer went back home, and we moved to another fleamarket.
