Christa and I headed out Saturday morning for Brenda, Arizona. Though it had rained all day before, and the morning was wet, cold and foggy, we decided nothing short of a micro burst was gonna stop us. The fog on the way out: It was pretty gloomy on that long ol' drive until we got maybe within 10 miles of our turn off. Then all of a sudden the fog broke, the sun shone through and our spirits were soaring! I had been near Brenda before, hunting the honey colored jasper just off the highway to the east of town, but it wasn't until I did a search here last week that I realized what kind of treasures were waiting off in the hills! A BIG thank you to Jamie for giving us directions on where to go! We spent the day combing the hills and found, among other things, spectacular cherry red jasp pieces with all sorts of crazy multicolored plumes streaking through, nodules, druzy everything, some fire agates and a couple chryscolla pieces. Our haul (minus two full buckets): This was wild.. way out and quite aways from the road we found this boulder cut in half. Some nice pieces: I really didn't want to leave, but before I knew it the setting sun and my aching bones were telling me 'it's time'. Can't wait to get back out there! Thanks for lookin'

Looks like a fantastic trip, pretty scenery and great finds! Jamie has traded me a few pieces of Brenda material and it is real sweet! Funny you finding that cut rock like that. I've found several piles of cut and cracked rock on the deserts that were plainly returned to the desert for other hounds to find. Pretty kewl. First time it happened it drove me nuts though because before I found the cut stuff, I was trying to figure out how material from 300 miles away had got to a spot where it shouldn't have been*L*....mel

Do you have any idea how badly you torture us poor rockhounds on the southeast coast when you show us photos like that? Let's see....from the coast of S.C. to Brenda, Ariz. is what....48 hrs drive? Almost manageable...almost...

Those pics made me weep. Being a member of the southeast area all I can do is drool at your finds. Folks like Randy, Free4rms, and myself have no comprehension of what it must feel like to find such wonderful rock. We are stuck admiring your finds. Then we have to go out and buy rocks to make ourselves feel better. I think I am going to mail myself to Arizona!!!
You have some wonderful rocks there thanks for the peek!!! Glad to hear nature was kind and that you had fun.

I would love to spend some time out there. Great finds and I agree, beautiful scenery.

Wow! Cool Finds! Can't wait to see pics when you start on these. I have to admit that I am in the same jealousy boat as everyone else here. It must be so great to have access to that kind of material. Someday I hope to make it out there - when I figure out how to disguise the words 'rockhounding trip' with a family vacation .

OK..seems to me it's time to start planning a group trip to Brenda, AZ. How is the area for camping in a tent? Is this all open property?

Thanks all for the comments. For those who feel tortured, sorry to rub it in (hehe) LOL No, but really.. Yeah Mel the cut pieces were a real trip. My first thought was maybe a club made a field trip and hauled out a saw and generator. Whatever the case I was pleasantly surprised! Pho It's public land (BLM I think), camping wouldn't be a problem. If anyone wants to head out this way in the next couple months let me know, I can't wait to get back out there! And it's just a stone's throw from Quartzsite!

Would you mind posting directions? I've only driven through Brenda on the way to Quartzsite and I would be thrilled to head down there for a weekend. What is the pink bubbly stuff by the way?
Got to get a break from this snow!
Thanks for the pics!
