Well a month ago Christa and I headed out to the Buckskin Mountains past Bouse to find the Planet Mine and look for the gemmy chrysocolla, druzy malochite and purple flourite that's supposed to be around. We never made it as there was a big annual desert race taking place and we were turned around within about 5 miles of our prospects. Bummer.
So we planned a return trip for this weekend, the 'Epic Parker Desert Race' was a memory, and we'd have no trouble getting out to the area. Yeah.. right. After pulling into Bouse after driving 2 1/2 hours and seeing racing banners everwhere I got this sinking de ja vous feeling in the pit of my my stomach, and sure as sh#t they had everything closed off for a race and turned us around 'cuz we didn't have a flippin pit pass. Argh!!
We went back to the other side of Bouse and drove around in the desert past where we had collected jasper and agates the last time and found a nice ridge with lots of cool jasper outcroppings. We hung out a bit and collected a good bucketful
It was still pretty early and we decided Brenda was only about 30 miles away so.. let's go!
After getting back to the collection area we stopped and did a tailgate lunch. As we were munching on our sadwiches Christa noticed a desert fox walking along the wash next to us. It checked us out and just kept rootin' and sniffin' along as if we weren't there, coming within about 25 feet of us.
Kinda hard to see.. dead center:
Again in the center.. good desert camo:
After eating our lunch and checking out our little friend, we hit the hills houndin'! Here's your's truly out with his Easter basket lol
And a shot of our trusty rock-gitter out in the boonies
Ok so our haul, looks very much like the one from 2 weeks ago.. but if you go back on the board here you'll see they are two very different but identical loads lol
Some killer boulders!
This one reminds me of what might be seen opening the back flap on a package of bacon
The honey jasper is more prevelant at a spot just east of Brenda but there's a few chunkers here and there where we were
Some more pieces. I figure it might be awhile 'till I get back to this area as I won't be hounding in the heat. I'm kinda like a squirrel gather nuts for the winter.. 'cept I'm more like a nut gathering rocks for the summer LOL
Thanks a bunch for looking!
;D
