Good place you have in here. Coming back to tumbling after several months. Our family V 5 raytech ended up in the trash 7 months ago. It lasted 14 months and we spent more money in barrels than the actual price of the tumbler and at the end the motor was plain dead, bad deal for a new tumbler. You have a lot of cool information on rotory tumblers and we decided to get one of them but also want a new GOOD vibratory tumbler. Could you please advise us on a good one to buy that will last for a long time. Any good reviews on vibratory tumblers that we missed? Jeff less than $200 please

Greetings All,
Sorry you haven't gotten any more helpful feedback Jeff. I've also only ever used rotary tumblers so I can't recommend a vibratory one to you. But from what I've gathered reading about them they just don't seem as durable as the rotary tumblers. Also I think that as long as you stick withs the under $200 models you will be limited only to "hobby" grade tumblers, not commercial tumblers which seem to be better constructed.
Hopefully someone actually using a vibratory tumbler will grace us here with a response. That's what the board is for yes?

Hi Jeff and welcome!! I bought a Lot-O-Tumbler by made by Calway about 7 years ago and I love it.I have polished just about every type of lapidary material and glass in it and still have the original barrels. This vibe tumbler has it's "quirks" as do all the other brands but I haven't found a problem with it that I couldn't fix myself. The motor is the original and it looks like it's going to run for a long time.It has sealed bearings which is a BIG pluss as you never have to oil them and dirt and grit can't get into them. The bad side: The lid pops off (easy fix) springs last only about 1 year running 24/7/365 (easy free fix) A wooden dowel is used to set the amplitude (vibration) and it wears out (easy fix) Noisy,,,,as all vibe units are The good side: VERY easy to operate Great motor (as mentioned above) Easy clean up Uses very little grit and polish (1/2 tsp/polish/4.5 lbs rocks) Fantastic results on your rocks Here's a few rocks that just came out this week: Here's a link to The Rockshed which carries the tumbler. therockshed.com/tumbler1.htmlAnd here's a link to confuse you a little !! LOL www.vibratorytumbler.com/?p=1I don't usually recomend someone buying a piece of equipment becaus it can come back and bight ya in the butt but I really like this unit and have literally finished hundreds of pounds of rocks in it. I hope this will help you. Tom

Jeff,, One thing I forgot to mention is the mounting of the unit. Calway suggests you cement it to a concrete floor to get the optimum performance out of the unit. (vibe units don't work to copacity when just put on a bench top) Me being fat,(kinda) old and mostly lazy I mounted mine on 4-8inch cement blocks using a tube of clear silicone for an adhesive. This makes a very sturdy base that's just the right height for us ole folks!! Birdseed olny uses a vib. You can send her a message directly. She has vast info on vibs.
I have ordered a vide, Thumbler's tumblers UV10, but still waiting for the Brown Santa Clause, UPS truck, to deliver it.
