MY barrel, after all the 60/90 tumbling (especially this jasper I'm doing), ends up well less than half full, so I put in quite a few pellets. Is this "right? What if I a) Tumble a barrel less than half full, or b) Have a fifth of the barrel plastic pellets?

i use a lot of pellets by the time i get to the polish phase, especially if i am trying to keep a "pure" batch. i see from your other post that you have more of the blue jasper....in your subsequent loads, you can add some in from this first bach as "do overs" to keep the volume up.

But what about the last course recharge and the fine grit stage? Won't these remove the polish?

well, if they are "do overs" in the true sense, then they need to go back and start over in the 2nd or 3rd stage and they will get a new polish in the final step. once you get more batches finished, you can begin to pick and choose which ones need to go back in as dunnage. they will turn out the best in the end sometimes!
