Last Saturday morning I spent a couple hours checking out a spot just north of Phoenix that I hadn't been to yet. After hiking around a while finding nothing much of interest, I finally came to a hill with a small agate field weathering out of the volcanic rock there. It was a pretty neat area that definitely warrants further investigation! Here's some of the stuff I brought back.. The boulder is a good 30lbs and was a Titanic iceberg when I found it. Only a small portion was exposed out of the hillside. 15 minutes of picking through hard clay and rocks finally brought her out to the light of day. The windows I have show a nice clear to blueish agate on one side, and the black and white stuff on the other. I hope to get this puppy slabbed some day! The black and white agate is really pretty stuff. The cuts I've done took a long time.. very hard stuff with lots of 'ghostly floaters'. It should take a good polish The carmel colored stuff looks promising as well I found several opalized pieces that have a greenish tint Some more These were a few odds and ends I picked up. I really like the one with the big dendrite And a couple nice nodules I found out there Thanks for lookin'!

Wow Beef. Nice finds there my friend. You have to be amassing quite a collection of rocks. I think the big one was well worth your effort and digging...that's a beaut! It looks like the area definitely warrants another trip or two of investigating. Steve

If that's "a few" I wander what does it mean for you "many".
That first nodule is very nice. I also like the black and white agate.

Nice finds!! I see alot of patterns in there. Your gonna have fun cutting those. The third and fourth pics (black and whites) look like some of the fossilized pieces I find here in Ohio with my flint and chert. Makes for some interesting slabs. By the way - what do you do with all of those truck loads of stuff you bring back every weekend??- Making me jealous - lol.

What an incredible area this must be! Would you be willing to give up more about the location? I spent a lot of time researching and then finding places to go on rocking day trips out of Phoenix and I will kick myself probably when I hear where you were. I had a lot of trouble finding the sites not far north of Phoenix. I was just looking through my AZ rocks today, I will try to put up a picture tomorrow of a piece I cut that is really pretty. I've got bits and pieces of many that resemble yours, but what you have is awesome!

Wow, I was surprised to see this come back up! Pup, I was hiking just off the Table Mesa Road, a little north of Anthem. Next time you head back out this way let me know and I'll take ya out there!
Thanks again for the comments! ;D
