Friday morning Christa and I loaded up the truck for a fun filled weekend in the White Mountains. Our destination: the Arizona/New Mexico border between Alpine and Luna. This area has some very fine agate, known for it's shades of blue, transparencies and bold fortifications. It's called Luna Blue, after Luna New Mexico (not to be confused with Luna agate from Old Mexico), but we found it comes in many different hues. Off we go into the mountains! After a 5 hour trip, we found ourselves very far removed from the hustle and bustle of the big city. During the whole weekend we only saw a trio of ATVers cruising through the back roads where we set up camp. A very cool rock tower across the canyon from our camp We made a few new friends out there In spots we found that the agate was literally littering the forest floor! (say that 3 times fast LOL) After a wonderful weekend of hounding, relaxing, camping, grilling and just enjoying what we had found, it was time to break camp and head back to reality On our way back yesterday we stopped off at Luna Lake for a picnic. We saw this Heron out stalking some trout And we shared our lunch with some of the locals Ok.. here's what we brought back. The infamous tailgate shot This stuff is sooo pretty The darkest blue stuff is a real treat. I have only rinsed these with the hose. The dirt they were dug from is some of the darkest, dirtiest dirt I've ever seen lol. Some scrubbing (and cutting) will reveal how great they really are. Like I said there's many different color variations of this stuff. Christa found this beautiful rainbow piece Found a little red jasp out there too Thanks a bunch for looking!! ;D

Wow Brian, your tailgate runneth over this time! That is some sweet looking agate and the area looks really cool too. I don't think there's anyplace left in Calif where you can go on a holiday weekend and not see anybody. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice Brian! I love the scenery shots - aint it great to enjoy the big outdoors like that! Those rocks are cool! Some of them look like glass already - so many shades and patterns. You're gonna have fun with those!

I really don't know what I enjoied the most, the landscapes and wildlife or the "forest litter". Great crop, theat hammer seems so tiny in the midle of so many rocks! "Christa"s find" stands out. Do I see a big grey-brown wood there (in the midle of the pile) or am I wrong?

Good golly gee whiz Brian! That stuff is beautiful! I really like the rainbow, but the dark blue is amazing also. Glad you 2 had a great weekend. I'm trying to get ready for a 3 day trip starting tomorrow. I wanted to wait until all the holidayer's are back home. :-)

Thanks a bunch everyone! Adrian, the big grey/brown in the center is agate, just a dark 'n rough one I dug up. It's the biggest of the lot, a good 25 pounds. It's a 'some day' slabber Yesterday I was relaxing under pines with 65 degrees. Today it's 100 degrees outside and I'm running around like a headless chicken trying to get caught up on things. It just isn't fair (when's Labor Day?) heh heh

Man that is some nice stuff, and the place where you camped is really nice too. From the looks of it, it looks like rock can be found all over the place.

Great camping spot! You were very kind to give your little spiny friend something warm to lay on. I love the dark blue. With everything I have seen from your trips I can only imagine the size of our rock pile! The next generation is going to love your estate sale. ;D

Looks like you had a great time and brought back some beautiful stuff. I love the rainbow, but then again the blue is also very nice. Anytime you feel the need to get rid of some of that I am here. lol I also live in az.
