A quick question for the more experienced guys out there: How do I choose between AO 1000 grit and silicon carbide 1000 grit? Are there any rules of thumb? I've got the handy polishing guide for polishes and different materials but what about this choice for pre-polish?

I've been using the silicon carbide 1000g and it works real well. I would think either would be ok, but I think the silicon carbide wouldn't break down as fast as the AO. I know this to be true with sandpaper, so I'm sure it's same with the loose grit. Does anyone approve of this message?

Isn't the 1000 AO the stuff that the Rock Shed sells as a pre-polish in their grit kits? Seems to me that I read on their site that it was. But hey Stoner ;D I'll approve your message ... hehehehehe
