ok i want to make some agate windchimes and every picture i look at has a wood ring hanger and a wood ring to run the fishing line (?) through. i have searched the net and cannot find what i'm assuming are 5-6" wood rings to drill your holes in and run the line through. i've searched crafts, craft supplies, wind chime parts, wood rings, wood donuts and on and on. what are these things called?? and where do you get them?? i can find small rings which would work for the hanger part and curtain rings with the part attached to hang the cutains but they aren't really big enough. do you have to make your own?

Okay, I want to know where you get time and energy to do all these things! Good lord, I can't even get one thing done, much less two or three! Don't you have a little one & a hubby to keep up with besides all the jewelry making, chimes, tumbling! Sheesh, I don't know how you do it! Send me some of those superwoman pills!
You should be able to find those wood rings at a crafts store. I don't know what they are called, but I see them in almost every craft store I go in. You can get them in a variety of sizes.

i wait until they go to bed and it's all quiet. which actually is about 8:30 for the both of them lol - 9 at the latest and they are out. i was just thinking today that i need a schedule - 1 day for sawing, 1 for hammering, 1 for recharging barrels, 1 for cabbing, 1 for drilling, 1 for beading, and if i can find the supplies 1 for wind chime making. it's the sleep part i'm having trouble fitting in lol.

i want Superwoman pills!
i agree, Kim, one day per activity is all i can manage, altho if i get my beading stuff all out and leave it out, it's kind of like a jigsaw puzzle, i can't walk by without messing with it a little bit.
my Gracenote chimes have a metal upper ring and a wooden center "bonger" and a light metal windcatcher at the bottom (real technical terms, i'm sure there are REAL names for all of the components). yeh, i guess i'd cruise the craft store....maybe yoyu could use an embroidery hoop?
good luck!

i'm lucky, Fino shows marginal interest at times, but more or less leaves things alone. she is an older cat and way too much fun sleeping. she is pretty mindful of what is a cat toy and what is not, too. and she KNOWS she isn't allowed on tables or counters, even tho i find little pawprints now and then.
i'd be interested how you make out in the wind chime department, my auntie in Texas is a windchime fanatic!

I sure need a schedule and then the energy to do the things on my schedule! That's my biggest problem. When I get home from work I am tired and don't feel like doing much of anything except sitting in the recliner in front of the TV or the computer. Sometimes I don't even have the energy to type a response or hit the remote to change channels. Then when the weekend comes, I am overwhelmed with things I want to get done. I have been trying to clean my house since last week and not having much success! If anybody ever saw what a mess my house is, they would never pay me to clean theirs! I'm thinking I need to start paying myself! Today I am shampooing my carpet, doing some dry brush painting in my bathroom, painting the 1/2 round trim for the bathroom, putting the finish on three walking sticks, and whatever else I come across that needs to be done! The walking sticks are finished and drying, the bedroom carpet has been shampooed, two walls in the bathroom are done, four pieces of trim halfway done and it's getting real close to dark-thirty. I need another 6 to 8 hs. of daylight! Or some superwoman, energy pills! Of course, if I wouldn't have taken my breaks and got on here, I might have gotten more done! llana

Windchimes would be so cool, post a pic and give us a tutorial when your done Kim. If you want to take some pics as you're doing it and write something, we could do a webpage tutorial, might be kind of neat.

Sorry, I do not know where you would find the stuff. I would, however, be interested in purchasing one when you are finished. I now have to go and take a nap, cus reading all the things you do has made me tired.

Kim, I have to superwoman on the nice weekends because I am such a slug during the week! And I am one of those people that has to be "in the mood" to do certain things and this AM I woke up IN THE MOOD, so I had to get with it. The mood usually doesn't last very long! KD, dry brush painting is where you barely dip a brush in the paint, then slash and burn over the wall. I hadn't planned on doing that, but I really hated the Light Navajo White color I painted it, it just looked dirty. So, I decided to dry brush the walls with the same lavendar color I am using for the trim. This is just the little room where the toilet is - about 2'X3' - TINY. I was afraid to paint it any color but white of some sort, but the dry brushing with the lavendar makes it look bigger and brightened it up. The laundry is the first thing on the list for tomorrow AM or I'll be going to work in my birthday suit. Not a pretty sight! Toad, I am always tired.. At least until it's time to go to bed, then I am feeling great! That's when I usually hit the grinder. Gettin' old sucks big time! llana

Those are really pretty! And not very expensive, which surprised me! Of course, I would wait and buy some you made! Can't wait to see them!
Have you thought about using driftwood to hang the chimes from? Or just an unusual piece of wood. You could go wood hunting through your pastures and find a neat looking piece of wood, strip or sand the bark off and put a nice finish on it.
Wish you lived closer to BE and I. We have a huge pile of driftwood and some of those pieces would be perfect for windchimes.

oh i love the driftwood idea! this calls for a trip down the mississippi river and a babysitter as they don't make enough lifejackets for me to take my child out there. if y'all have never seen the mississippi river in action it is one powerful force of nature that can suck a whole tree down in a current and not release it for as far as the eye can see. i have to share this ms river story. when my husband and i started dating he took me to the river to check hoop nets. we were having so much fun and the boat was full of fish. all of a sudden a boat shot out of some trees at full throttle and my husband started shouting out orders and trying to crank the boat saying they would shoot at us. i asked why when it was his hoop nets and he said "it's their hoop nets" and i was hollering for him to hurry up. he flew like the wind and had us hitched and leaving faster than i knew was possible. i was still sitting in the boat as he drove away lol. i like that wind blown look anyway lol. kim

rofl, i love the idea of "jacking" someone else's fish......up here, people "jack" deer (hunt without a license)....
what kind of fish do they shoot at you for?
i've been over the Mississippi by car a few times when i was younger. and you are right, a very powerful force of nature.......
i went looking for driftwood the other day just by my creek and found nothing....i'll have to look on the shores of our nearset lake soon before it snows! well, it snowed today, but it didn't stick...

I like the Mississippi up here, where it starts, nice and small ... go a couple hundred miles and yeah, it starts getting big and ugly.
Cher
PS ... those windchimes are cool, is everyone getting ideas now?
