Is Alumina a good polish to use for rock tumbling? If so can anyone tell me how to use it and how much?
Thanks Harry

i use it for harder stones, 7MOH and up..it's economical, usually what you get in the kits. i use 6 tablespoons for the 3 pound tumbler barrel (rotary)....

Harry, I have used AO several times and have never gotten a nice shine. I hate the stuff! Someone said on another thread that there are different grades of AO, so I must have gotten the low grade stuff, because others have gotten a nice shine with it. So, I would say if you order some make sure you get the high grade.

So far, AO is the only polish I have used, and have not had a problem yet. I do use twice the amount of suger for thickening.

Chris, I haven't tried adding any sugar, are you using it every phase?

Cher, No just the last polishing phase. Chris PS.... Wash your barrels ect. right away when you are done. The suger makes things sticky.

I want to thank everyone for the information and help. I am going to give it a try as soon as I get some, and see what happens. I have never used sugar in my tumblers, so I do not know how much to use. I also heard it does make a big mess?
Thank you, Harry
