I would like to know if IOLITE can be tumbled. Does anyone have any experience with it? If it can be tumbled, do you have any tips for tumbling it in a rotary tumbler? Thanks for your feedback.

it is a 7-7.5 on the moh hardness scale but very costly around $6.50/carat - used primarily for facetting. do you have some?? i don't see why it couldn't be tumbled though if you wanted. somebody did some peridot - riverotter i think - and it turned out very nice in the tumbler. show us a pic if you have some so we can drool with you.

Iolite tumbles real well. It is called Water Saphire. I use the standard grits and aluminum oxide for polish. I suppose cerium oxide would do well but I haven't done it with cerium. I mostly facet Iolite. It looks great faceted. Good luck.
