;DHi All, First... William... I am starting my first load with your rocks..... You were absolutely correct... It is fun to make Huge rocks, small.... I need to get a new hammer but my Kids were commenting on how relaxed I was this weekend.... Website question... this may be for you Andy. I am a "new member" and assume I will become a "Junior Member" or "Full Member" after so much time or replies or postings..... My question is... does someone's access or abilities or something change with this progression through the "membership"? Also, when I log in, I never see how many are "logged-on". Since I have been coming into this board for a few months now... I don't think I have ever seen someone else on when I was online...... this seems odd?? Have I set me access up correctly? Thanks, jon

Jon, We are small in numbers - but growing. Sofar there are 89 members - there arent many searches for "rock tumbling" on search engines daily - so the membership can only grow at a rate which is predetermined by that. proboards8.com/help/This is where all the info on this particular board can be found - its a free board and I havent used it long enough yet to see how people progress. The help is not that comprehensive Yes - it goes - new - junior - full member etc..... it is based on the number of posts a person makes over time. Hope this helps. Your settings seem fine to me. Cheers Andy

Greetings All,
Hey Jon, I'm glad you are having fun with the rocks you got from me, there's nothing like wielding a hammer on some rough to work off stress. Just a tip on the flame agate, it's some really hard rock and might take two runs through the coarse grit to shape it up. I've put mine through 1 run with 46/70, 1 run with 60/90, then sort out peices that I feel need yet another run through 60/90 before putting them in 120/220. All this just to get it ready for pre-polish. But then I like to have the rocks pretty smooth before they go into the 220 grit, so I'm probably doing some overkill.
Oh, and the leopardskin jasper is prone to frothing, it gives off gass during the coarse grind. Wih this I've gone one run in 60/90 and one in 120/220 before sorting out the pieces ready for the 220 grit. It seems to be a bit softer than the aventurine and agate and the inclusions tend to make it brittle, small thin pieces can be broken by hand. Unlike most other rocks the slurry is reddish-brown from the iron oxide inclusions. I know other people have posted about jasper and the potential problems with it but I thought I'd remind you again.

Thanks for the head's up on the Agate!!!
I received the Blue Aventurine and am starting on that. Is it also called leopardskin jasper??? If not, got any experience with Blue Aventurine?
Thanks again!!!
Let's see how my V5 vibrating machine will handle this load!!!

Greetings All, Hey Jon, sorry for the mixup, it was another person here who puchased the leopardskin jasper As for the aventurine, it should be about the same as the flame agate, maybe not so hard to get shaped depending on the size pieces you are working with. I had some pieces, slightly smaller than fist-sized, that took one 46/70 and two 60/90 grinds to get shaped to my satisfaction, but only because they are big hunks of rock. The smaller pieces shape up after two grinds, then I put them in 120/220, followed by 220, then 600. I have a batch (finally) in the first polish run now. WilliamC

I am looking forward to braking up some big Rocks and making them small. Were is a good place to get some lager rocks for braking up into tumbling size. What is a good one to start out with.
