I have an old lewaco 18" saw and I need a new on/off switch---would anyone know where you could get one? it is a toggle with a threaded end to hook a chain to for it shutting off

i did a few searches and came up fairly empty. Lewaco comes up as a manufacturer in Poland. i found a few references in Bob's Rock Shop message board but nothing very useful. there are other references on eBay, wish you luck!

You can wire with romex, and extend the lines outboard to where you want to put any wall light switch. If you cannot just replace the entire wire system for the switch, you can use wire nuts and move the switch to any position you want. An easy job.

That sounds like one honker of a saw!

Hi snowdog and welcome to the board. Sounds like you may have to be creative on this one. One thing you can do is take the old one to Radio Shack and get one that is close physically, and able to carry the current.
Good luck, Ed

Any hardware store should have a fan rheostat. It should be at least 600w and be on and off capable. The ones I have seen cost 16$. They are push on/off, and twist to speed up, or go slower. The saw will be geared for cutting so you will not need the rheostat part but it takes the ampherage. You will need to push on, push off. They also sell the rubber grommets that close the hole for the wire. Just replacing the toggle switch, any 120V toggle switch will handle the start up load.

Thanks for all the tips!! I did find a regular toggle switch to use ---just can't screw the clip to it for the chain- auto shut-off now--it's hand shut off until I find a way to fasten the clip to the toggle ( was where the saw would shut itself off when the rock went past the blade --now I have to watch it and shutoff by hand)
