Today as I was leaving my mother-in-laws home I spotted a geode in the landscape rock it was split in half and is a little rough around the edges. I want to shine it up. I have a tumbler but am not sure how to make this stone shine. What should I do? Thanks

Why not leave it as it is, an interesting discussion piece, a marvel of nature? A tumbler will likely wreck it. You could use a grinder or cabbing machine to flatten and polish the edge. Professionals would diamond saw the edges flat and grind and polish on a flat lap, a fairly heavy investment in equipment. Join a local club, see if they have a lapidary workshop or if members will let you use their personal equipment and show you the ropes.

Hi Warren, welcome to the site. I was browsing e-bay today and happened upon this auction for a geode and remembered your post. It is quite beautiful as it is. You will notice the natural cleavage line between the two halves is really fascinating. . SirRoxalot, you have made it clear on another post your feelings about the power in stones, but I can guarantee that you will be strangely drawn to and captivated by this geode ;D . And William, you might pick up some pointers on e-bay selling as you mentioned looking into it earlier. The auction is fashioned in the "shock and drool" method. It sure caught my eye! Others might not feel the same, sorry in advance if anyone is disturbed by it. Here it is: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3225&item=2207025566Happy holidays all! Talk to you later, Don

Don I have to ask this..... does 'shock and drool' refer to the geode itself or Theresa?? LOL Looks like she's going to fall out of her santa costume! Pat

Nice one! the lady certainly does have an interesting pair that she is supporting, they would look to be evenly weighted, I wonder if she lets other folk hold them when they view or if you have to pay first before you touch. Is this another American thing...calling them geodes....thats a new one on me!
