Sorry about writing "polished" instead of "finished" Mark. Thanks for fixing that for me But ... if I add a post, it goes back to "Polished" in the title

Alice - I know - I tried to get them all straight by amending them and it restores what the original post was.
I wanted to write a crawler/bot which could easily identify "finished" from "rough" (in string terms) - but I cant if they are all different.
Grim.

I think all posts should be Rough and finished (just my opinion)... just the same rock as in the title. Like red jasper for instance... doesn't really matter where it's from...red jasper is red jasper and all pictures should be posted in that thread (finished or rough). In your post, you can say "this red jasper is from ___"

OK, I just went back in and changed mine to just read rough or finished w/no location. I listed the locations where known in text above the photos. I forgot that others may ad to the post with more photos of rocks that may have come from another location.
To a collector the location is nice to know. It still is amazing to me that the same stone from a differing location will look so much different. Great to see the list has reached 5 pages already!! What a great thing we have here, thanks Mark!!
(I just used the "modify" button to change to title to just read the stones name and rough or finished.)

Tony, your Jade is awesome! I really like the Vulcan jade. So colorful! Does it "shine" like the green jade does? (like you can sort of see into it)

Alice, Vulcan jade can polish up to a mirror shine but it has to be hand sanded. Its only a thin layer that takes on the surrounding elements. Tony

Cher is there a difference between Lake Superior Agate and Botswanas? other then where they come from?
Comparing pictures, to me they look the same.

Alice: Lakers, Botswanas, Chinese Rainflower Pebbles, Agate creek Agate from Queensland and several others form in the same manner in gas pockets left in volcanic basalts or andesites and are called amygdaloidal agate due to their often almond shape. They often look similar but there are quite a few differences in general coloration and style of banding that make it pretty easy to tell them apart.....mel

I think there's quite a bit of color difference to, seems most of the botswanas are darker, like in the dark purple, blue to black with white range. Lakers are more in the reds, red with white banding being the most sought after because of the striking color. Lake Superior Agates are considered a semi-precious gemstone too, don't know if the botswanas are or not.

Wrong subject line dackerry. Go to the first subject line on the home page, and re-post your question.
