It was suggested that some of us post our firsties to encourage beginners...so, I found some OLD pics from my first few months of wrapping. I bet the stone fell out of this one. This was one of my best ones! The bail is in dire need on this one. The bail AND curls hurt my eyeballs on this one. The center wire in the bail is higher than the other 2 wires and the 3 curls on the side are not closed...lots of scratchy nicks on this baby too as I recall. ok...so I got the half-round wrapped bindings down pretty quick...the rest...wellllll....came as time passed. ;D My bails were cattywhompused...curls were not fluid and uniform...wires that were locked down in back were rough from all the fights it and I had...wire would have nicks and scratches (no tumbler then)...uh....well, you get the picture. lol... So, it all starts somewhere...some will pick it up faster than others...so what. The point is...it can be done! FYI: I have a box of scrap silver wire that weighs over 5 lbs. . I have kept all my scrap wire from the very beginning. Shoot...I better turn it in one of these days...naw...I have plans for that wire! ;D

oh yeah...I used copper A LOT! That craft wire was the pits!!!!! Ditched it asap. I started using SS too soon in my opinion...but shoot, I "thought" I was real good. ;D Also, as a newbie I used tumbled stones cause they were cheap...BAD!!!! I finally got a bag of various cheap cabs from www.eloxite.com/ and also www.brandywinejewelrysupply.com/ . Course I didn't know what they all were, but for practice, they were cheap and the right shape. I always suggest 22 x 30 ovals or larger in the beginning and lots of tape! Hey, as you get better, you use less tape...but tape can help hold the wires on the stone too. Wrap and rock on!

I'm sorry now that I asked you to post those firsties. Tey are great! Nancy, now I know what I need to wrap like you: besides lot of talent, I need extreme exigence to myself. I would have been more than pleased with those firsties. Thank you, Akansan. Looking at yours I realize that not all the hopes are lost. Adrian

well dang Adrian...you are so right about me...I am a perfectionist or exigent as you said when it comes to making anything. Whether it be wood working, deco painting...whatever...it never seems good enough and I can always find things that need fixing. It is why I quite playing the piano...I couldn't get good enough...FAST enough. No patience with myself. sigh... Ah well... still, I had tapes (Preston Reuther) as well as a great magazine that use to be published called the "Wire Artist Jeweller". I prefered books and mags as I learned better that way. Again, everyone is different...some learn better by watching. BTW...you can buy past issues to WAJ online...just google Wire Artist Jeweller. I may sell some soon.
