I'm trying to do some wraps, but would love to see the backs of some of the examples everyone is posting. Obviously the point is to contain the cab, but are the backs as decorative as the fronts?

Generally the back isn't as decorative as the front, because that is the main support on some of the wraps. Here are a couple of examples of two different wraps. This first one the only difference in the front and back is where the loops are located. On this wrap you will see that the back is the support for the wires that run across the front of the stone. Good morning Bouldergal. Not to say that my wraps are all that good, but I try to post the backs and make them as uncluttered as possible, some of them have turned out to be reversable accidently. Some wraps such as "cabs" with a flat back IMO would not look right being reversable, but other kinds of stones can be reversable if you think ahead and plan for it. I too would love to see the backs of some of these folks wraps, especially Jonje's rings and/or bracelets. Not much help here I'm afraid...sorry. granpaw
Ooops. Thanks Tami for posting those, I didn't see them till after I wrote this reply. Lots of help there.

That's one of the things I'm working on now. Right now, my backs are a little "messy". Ideally, the back would be a neat as the front, just not as decorative. Tami's that she has posted are a good example of that. Neat backs, just not as decorative.

Ahh finally someone who understands me - I'm the one everyone refers to as "the pain" when posting the backs of cabs- I too need to see how to finish the wires & do up the back

Some people don't post pics of the backs, cause it'd give too much info away...these are usually those that have tuts for sale, or plan to have them for sale. Why pay for something that you can figure out for free? ;D Example: I knew a gal who bought a tut...made the piece...then posted pics from every angle of the piece she had done. Well...let me tell ya what...the lady that made that tut was beside herself (the forum was a HUGE jewelry one). Truly, I don't blame the lady (not me) that spent sooooo much time and effort on making the tutorial. I've made some simple ones, and they are very time consuming. Then to have someone come along and show how it was done with all those pics...sheesh, why bother making tutorials when this happens? I felt really bad for the lady... Then, there are those like me who HATE to take pics in the first place...ack! Still...I sure don't mind helping others... and on simple wraps, I wouldn't mind showing pics of the back. Heck, if I didn't want to help anyone, I sure wouldn't spend so much time on helpful info. to put on my site. It isn't easy to find if you are browising my site...so I just give you all the url to find it. I love stones...and I know how helpful you all are in that category...so I love to try and give right back. Plus, I remember how hard it was in the beginning. There weren't as many GREAT people out there willing to share...tight lipped suckers fer sure. Anywho, what I'm getting at in a long winded way is...if I don't post a pic of the back, pulezze forgive me! I'm more than likely thinking of a book, ebook, or tutorial with a price. Ya just never know! lol... Hugs to all. Nancy F

Ya know...I would post pics of the backs of my pieces, buuut, I must say that I'm pretty ashamed of them. lol Although the fronts are acceptable, the backs are a total wreck. *sigh
I'm still trying to figure out how to tidy them up, but for some reason it just escapes me.
Maybe I'll post a couple backs for some suggestions, then I'll go hide in a corner with my eyes closed and try to find a warm happy place while the rest of RTH looks at them and shake their heads with disgust. lol
Sorry, I'm not much help. Keep at it.

Yes, way cool. I didn't know you were a wrapper, Randy. You should do more, but after making 300 pendants for your daughter's school craft show, you probably don't have the time or energy!!
Very nice. Thanks for showing. Great back, too. Needs some earrings to go with it!

Yeah, I wrap too ;D Thanks for the compliments! Amy- I did a pair of tigereye earrings too, but they go with another tigereye pendant that I did last year. Earrings are harder because of the size. (I have big hands) lol

All of you are SUPER! I'm trying to learn and there are so few good books out there. I'm just simply trying to find a method to keep everything from falling apart, yet so many pictures show work that is as pretty on the back as the front. Thanks for all the input. Someday I'll have something to show, too!!!

Backs are really frustrating for me, but I don't have an issue with sharing, so here are a couple. I figure I'll be good when I get like that lady Tweety mentioned whose wire ends she couldn't find!! Here's a quick and dirty collage of some of my recent pieces. I'll put a link after the pic so you can go to the larger pic on my website and get a closer look. Awg...I hate when the pics are that big - the flaws pretty much glow in flourescent red!!!!! Here's a link to a larger photo in my gallery: tinyurl.com/ys82mgI hope that helps some. Randy - that's a great pendant btw. It's been so long since I've seen that work from you. You caught onto it so quickly - how come you don't play with that more?

Shelbe: I think you're there already! Beautiful work - I share my backs so others can learn from it

<blushing> thanks Tweetiepie. I usually forget about taking a picture of the back. Usually, there really isn'tmuch of a difference between the front and back so I don't remember to take a photo of the back. IF I remember it's because I remember when you first asked for the wire sizes and pics of the backs. I like seeing the backs too. Sometimes I can't figure it out, but usually can come kind of close!! It's a great way to learn. I may have a lot of books and magazines, but I've learned the most here and on a couple of jewelry forums, through pictures and people being willing to share. I figure it's only fair to return the favour whenever possible.
