This is what I've been working on...hence, I haven't shown anything for a while. Anywho, it was an experiment. I have never antiqued a piece before, but the cab seemed to beg for it. ;D It is Larvikite (cab and square beads), Aquamarine, London Blue Topaz and an 8 x 6mm Sapphire. ok,. ok...here it is! Full necklace The clasp Pendant part Bottom half Dang if I could get a really good picture of it, as it was cloudy all day and full sun would have captured all the sparks...as well as not making it look so dark...cause, it ain't! I hope you enjoy it.

It's lovely, Nancy. Your pieces always inspire me to try something besides a simple border wrap...and then I grow fearful and sit in amazement instead. Here's a question I've had about antiqued pieces since I've started working with silver. When the oxidation overtakes the silver, how do you clean the piece without loosing the look?

What a beautiful piece of art! Oh, you're supposed to wear it? I think it begs to be on a black background, maybe velvet?
Someday I'll be happy to be able to produce something half as spectacular.

Thanks all! akansan...I'm not REAL sure, but I think all you have to do is rub it with a treated jewelry cloth...that is what I did after blackening it. As I said, this is my first, so I really don't know. I will wear it and see what happens...that way I can say for sure what is the best way to keep such a piece. This bugger took about a week to make. Keep in mind, that I only work for 4 hours in the mornings on these pieces. My fingers and back can't take any more. However, the last couple of days...I spent most of them working on it cause I was trying to hurt myself...naw...just wanted to get it done. ;D I'm afraid a black background would not work with this piece...it would sort of "blend" into it. Course, I really don't know...maybe I'll give it a shot. Anywho, thanks for all the kind feedback!

Wow, another eye popper!! Unreal, so you just make up the design as you go or do you draw it out first? Thats bad azz!! I love the stone together with the faceted stones, what a great necklace.

I'm not worried when you don't post any work for a long time, Nancy: that only means you'll bring up something great, and that's what you did right now. Amazing work!

Thanks again all! Jaime, I draw and outling of the cab in permanent ink in my sketch book...then I doodle around it...till I get what I want. Still, it came out a tad different. ;D This is because, when I use beads, it is hard to get the distance just right in the drawing. Still..it is pretty close. Sometimes I dream the designs...my sketch book and pencil are usually near. The wire used...20 gauge square and 26 gauge round in sterling silver. I'm still adding up all the feet of wire used.

Holy smokes, that uses an insane amount of wire! what size wire did you use to wrap around the other wire?
That is insanely beautiful - any chance of seeing it modelled on someone?

Thanks ya'll! Yeah, I'll have DH take a pic of me in it when I find the right thing to wear. lol... Tweetie, I wrapped 26gauge round around 20 gauge square half-hard. After I made the S's, I tumbled them along with the cab after it was wrapped. Then I made the other sections and added the jumprings and tumbled them along with the clasp part. I might make it a tad longer...dunno, as it fit me fine.

I love it, too! By antiqueing it, it reminds me like it's from the 1920's or something! It would be great to see a photo of someone wearing it!

You can model it, nancyf! If you don't want to show your face, you can crop it out of the photo. But, please, get us a photo!
