Okay, Nancy's piece inspired me to try something a little more complex this time. It's no where near the polished piece that she presented us, but I figure I get an "A" for effort, right? ;D It's still a bit rough. I figure this is more of a prototype...and next time I'll use dead soft instead of half hard. My fingers are still throbbing from trying to get the bottom "perfect" using the half hard. I'm out of the pearls I used in the piece, so I'll finish the chain using the same size black agate beads. If I had black jade, I'd use that to keep the stones similar at least. So - critiques & criticism are definitely welcome!

I'll give you an "A?"
The "?" will be transformed in "+++++++++++++" if you tell me that the triangle jade is steady in that discrete wrap. I like so much those wraps that makes you wander if the rock is steady or not, but in fact they are safe.

Dang...my posts keep vanishing! I KNOW it was there...Anywho, GREAT job! I have a lot of pearls. I finally quit buying the suckers. lol... When cleaning pieces in silver and pearls, I use a bio-degradeable paste from Sunshine products. I use to sell it. BUT, since I started filing taxes as an "independant artist", I coulcn't do it anymore. Weird rules with that category, but I don't have to keep inventory. That makes up for any thing! I hated doing inventory...tooooo hard. ack!

Thanks, guys, for the compliments. I know of a couple places I really need to tidy and such, specifically the bottom knot. Unfortunately, as that started half-hard before work-hardening, I don't know what I can do to tidy the lines of that knot at this stage in the game. It's steady, Adrian. The side wraps actually hug the outer edge of the stone, same way a normal wrap would. When I locked the pieces into the side wraps, it gave it the illusion that the side wraps actually sit completely away from the stone. It's an illusion I didn't mind. Dee - the knots are a play on the Celtic knots. There was a small piece in one of the wire jewelry mags a few months ago about turning your scraps into useable pieces. The knot was one thing they showed...I just didn't know what I would do with it at the time!

I think it looks just great. Did you make the links for the pearls too?, that seems like it would be the hardest part of the necklace. ;0)

Thanks everyone! Susan, now you have me looking at it upside down as well. I'll have to think about that before flipping it. Kjohn - A lot of this was done with scraps of wire. The pearl links are scraps of 24g half-round half hard scraps I had from clipping binding wires. The top celtic knot is 24g round dead soft from scraps I had. I had already assembled that piece when I had read the article in the mag, but then I couldn't figure out what to do with it. As the top piece was round, I used 22g round for the actual wrap of the stone. Unfortunately for my fingers, the only 22g round I had was half-hard. I wrapped the piece basically the way that Susan has it, except I really started from the top like I have it. I made my little loop to attach the "top" celtic knot, then proceeded to wrap the rest, leaving the bottom long for the bottom knot. I think my next piece I'll try for a sideways look.

Great job! Isn't it fun venturing into a new style! I think you'll find your fingers hurt a lot less when you use dead soft wire and it also becomes easier to create those flow-y forms. Wonderful start!
