Last night I was channel "surfing" and came across "Jewelry TV" where they are usually selling gems, etc. (home shopping network type show). There was a lady on teaching how to wire wrap step-by-step. She made it look so easy. I was just wondering if it really is that easy? Are most of you self-taught or did you take a class, buy a book, etc? www.jewelrytelevision.com/jewelschool

I didn't catch the show, but it really is probably that easy to do a border wrap. I'm self-taught, from looking at pictures here and around the web. The more advanced wrapping like the faceted stones of Kim (RockyRacoon) and NancyF's work is obviously more complicated, but the basic ideas behind it are really simple.

Yes I did see that and I learned the one thing that I had been doing wrong on my cab wraps. I loved watching it. Tami

Hmmm. I took a class with a girlfriend at a local bead shop. I somehow have an easier time getting the wire to do what I want it to do, and she still has trouble fitting the wire to shape the stone, or twisting and crossing her wires! So for some, it's not so easy. But definitely rewarding and fun! Dee

Yeah, Dee. I know what you mean. For some it's like me and math - I can do it, but it's a painful process. The basic mechanics is fairly simple. The execution can really tie people up in knots.

Ah yes...that is Dale (Cougar) Armstrong. She is a great gal. Believe it or not, I was contacted about doing that DVD...I just don't like to travel, so...nope, I didn't go for it. Anywho, wrapping is easier for some than others...still, if ya stick to it, it can be done. There are a lot of ways to do border wraps as well as other styles of wrapping. The more you do it, the better ya get. Some will go on and venture out into more complicated designs...and others will not. NOthing wrong with that...you should enjoy what you do...THAT is what is important. Take a look at this section I am working on for those starting out in wire jewelry. www.keystonejewelry.com/make-jewelry.htm I hope to get more info. on there soon.
